Justin Thomas and Tiger Woods are very good friends, and the two players know all there is to know about each other’s golf games.

Tiger Woods was the dominating force in golf from the late 90’s right up until 2008 when he tore his ACL and suffered a stress fracture in his left tibia en route to winning the US Open at Torrey Pines – the 14th major championship of his career at the time.

Numerous injuries and highly publicised personal problems wreaked havoc with his golfing career over the next decade, but he came back to win The Masters for the fifth time in what was a quite remarkable achievement back in 2019.

Woods has won 82 PGA Tour titles, and is tied at the top of the list alongside the late, great Sam Snead.

Thomas has not been shy when it comes to winning throughout his career either, and has 15 PGA Tour titles to his name – not bad considering the fact he’s only 31.

Justin Thomas has often been compared to Tiger Woods when it comes to their winning mentalities.

However, something Tiger did two decades ago really is in a league of its own.

Justin Thomas says what he finds ‘insane’ about Tiger Woods’ famous Masters chip

Thomas was speaking on the Throwbacks podcast about the upcoming Masters tournament.

As Thomas and the podcast hosts began to reminisce about famous moments at Augusta National, the topic of Tiger Woods’ famous chip in on the 16th hole in the final round in 2005 came up.

And JT was asked to explain just how difficult that shot was:

I have definitely hit it in practice. It’s so hard to put into words how insane… it was not a difficult chip to hit inside of 10 feet. Because of where he is and the slope. To get it to do all of that and the spin it has to have. And obviously the moment is a whole other thing. I have hit it over that green a couple of times to that pin and that is not a good place to go. It’s going down the same slope.

It just goes to show how difficult that chip was, given the fact that Thomas is one of the very best in the game with some form of wedge in his hand around the greens.

Tiger Woods once had very harsh words for Justin Thomas

The two golfers have grown to be very close off the course.

Back in 2018 though, Tiger did not mince his words when it came to giving Thomas some no-nonsense advice.

JT shared what Tiger told him when he asked the 15-time major champion what he needs to do to improve, as quoted by Golf WRX:

“Immediately he’s like, ‘You don’t have near enough shots. Like, you can work it but you don’t have enough shots to be, you know, as dominant as I was.’ That kind of thing. He’s like, ‘You have some that you can hit, but you don’t have all of them and you don’t have enough.’”

Seven years later, it’s safe to say that Thomas took Tiger up on that advice.

He’s one of the best in world golf now at working his ball both ways as well as flighting it low and sending it high on demand.
