Justin Thomas was among the American players to impress at the Ryder Cup, although his side did fall short against Team Europe at Bethpage Black.

Thomas scored two points for the US Ryder Cup team, who were beaten 15-13 by their European rivals in New York.

Only Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young scored more for Keegan Bradley’s men, with each ending their weeks on three points.

But Thomas really stepped up for the USA at Bethpage Black, although it was ultimately in vain as they suffered a very disappointing defeat on home soil.

There was, however, a superb fightback from the hosts, with Thomas among the American players winning their singles matches on Sunday.

Thomas defeated European star Tommy Fleetwood, with the latter having won more points than any other player at this year’s Ryder Cup.

The former has now taken to social media to express his feelings after the loss, writing on Instagram: “Played to the whistle we did.

“Still in awe at what this team did yesterday and how much fun we had doing it. So grateful to be a part of another Ryder Cup.

“Hats off to Team Europe and how well they played all week, they earned it. Until next time Ryder Cup USA.”

J.J. Spaun reacts after making his Ryder Cup debut for the USA

He was as classy as ever in his message, with that attitude continuing on from his admirable interactions with the fans at Bethpage Black earlier in the week.

Thomas attempted to quiet the crowd in New York amid their constant abuse of the European players, which often crossed the line.

At the same time he really raised the roof in the right way with his victory over Fleetwood, which was closely followed by wins for many other teammates, including J.J. Spaun.

He has also taken to social media after impressing on his Ryder Cup debut, with Spaun writing on Instagram: “Playing in the Ryder Cup was never really a dream of mine growing up because I never imagined I would make it this far in golf. It’s amazing what hard work, determination and perseverance can do.

“It was beyond an honor to represent the USA and go to battle with the rest of this amazing team in New York. An experience I will forever be grateful for and learn from and memories I’ll cherish forever.”

Like Thomas, Spaun can hold his head high despite America being beaten at Bethpage, where he earned his side two points.

He defeated Sepp Straka 2&1 in the singles format, with Bradley criticized for not using Spaun more in New York.
