Justin Thomas has got his PGA Tour season underway today as he teed off in the American Express in California earlier today.

Thomas will be hoping for a big 2024 after failing to pick up a win in 2023. Indeed, it was the first year since 2015 that Thomas has not managed to get at least one win on the PGA Tour, thus failing to add to his impressive 15 victories so far.

However, teeing off today was all about simply getting the season underway and he was paired up with fellow American and popular PGA star, Rickie Fowler.

And over on the first tee, Thomas was in high spirits as he cracked a joke at the expense of Fowler’s caddie, Ricky Romano.

Taking to the tee box and captured by the PGA Tour’s official social media accounts, Thomas wasted no time in getting his dry sense of humour across to Fowler and his caddy.

“Starting my season with you,” Thomas said before Fowler’s caddie remarked back ‘Are you sure you’re happy with that?’.

Thomas, in typical fashion, quipped back:

“I never said I was happy…you must have selective hearing.”

Justin Thomas will be hoping for big 2024

For a player like Justin Thomas to not win in 2023 seems strange. He is such a talent that seeing him not pick up a single win on the PGA Tour just doesn’t feel right. Such was his run of winning year on year, it begs the question as to why he struggled.

However, he’s made a good start to the tournament in California.

At the time of writing, Thomas was five under through ten and looking very much in control of his game.

2024 can be a big year for Thomas. He is still only 30 and having won two majors already in his career, will be expected to challenge to add to that tally this year.

Much like Rory McIlroy, Thomas is often one of the big favourites heading into most tournaments and he’ll be hoping to at least pick up one win this year to get back on track.
