Justin Thomas might have managed to fight his way into the Ryder Cup squad for Bethpage Black but after finishing in 69th at the Procore Championship, he has been called out.
Thomas enjoyed a better season in 2025 than in recent years and finally managed to get a win after going two years without a victory.
However, inconsistency has been a problem for Thomas all year and in the penultimate tournament before the Ryder Cup, his finish was worrying.
Thomas carded a final round of 75 to finish as one of just four players to shoot over par after making the cut.
And with the Ryder Cup coming up next, former PGA Tour star Smylie Kaufman has expressed his concern over Thomas’ performance.

Justin Thomas told his form is a big worry ahead of the Ryder Cup
Keegan Bradley will need the very best of Justin Thomas if he is to help the US team win out against Europe.
As of now, Thomas is not at his major winning best and while his 2025 overall has been impressive enough, this week at the Procore showed where Thomas’ problems lie.
Indeed, speaking on the latest episode of his Smylie Show, former player Kaufman suggested Thomas will not even feature in the opening session at Bethpage.
“‘I don’t think so [will play in the opening session]. JT played really well at the TOUR Championship and I think this is a good track for JT to maybe manage the misses and keep it in play,” Kaufman said.
“I think what was so concerning this week with him was that his iron game was just so poor. I know it’s easy to look at what they do well, it’s kind of what I’m looking at and we can look at the entire year vs Bethpage but this is as close as we get to the Ryder Cup and their form, so it’s fair to look at this.
“Keegan was watching all week. I would be surprised at this point to see Thomas or Morikawa go out in the morning. Doesn’t mean they’re not going to have good Ryder Cups just means they either need to play well in practice to impress the vice-captains, or something else. I think the US team is going to have to find a few of those guys who have almost found a way to make it click, because if not, they’ve got a lot to worry about.”
Justin Thomas’ Ryder Cup record so far
It’s easy to see why Thomas was picked by Bradley and when it comes to being a Ryder Cup stalwart, he has more than delivered over the years.
In the singles, he is unbeaten, winning all three of his matches so far, while in the four-balls, he’s very much even with 2-1-2 record.
The foursomes is where things get worse for Thomas, but only by one, with a record of 2-3-0 so far.
Going into Bethpage Black, Thomas’ experience in what looks like a very new USA team could end up being vital, despite his poor play at the Procore.
