Along with Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas must be wondering how exactly he has not registered a win on the PGA Tour in recent months after showing some outstanding form.

Justin Thomas has arguably been one of the most impressive players on the PGA Tour since the most recent Tour Championship. The two-time major champion has finished second on three occasions.

In many ways, his game remains a work in progress. He opened his Players Championship campaign with a 78 at TPC Sawgrass, while it appeared that he was going to leave himself with too much to do once again at the Valspar Championship after posting a 73 on Thursday.

Thomas would just about make the cut at Innisbrook. But he managed to produce a masterclass over the weekend to lead by three at one stage down the back nine on Sunday.

Unfortunately, Thomas would make bogeys on 16 and 18 to open the door for Viktor Hovland to secure the victory. Nevertheless, it is impossible not to be encouraged about Thomas’ form.

In fact, speaking on 5 Clubs, Taylor Zarzour suggested that he is more confident than ever that Thomas is going to get across the line on a couple of big stages before the end of the year.

“I think that anyone who saw Justin Thomas play last week should be encouraged by the way that he played. If you combine that with the form that he’s shown in all of 2025, you would say that this guy is trending upwards. I do believe he’s going to win massive tournaments, plural, in 2025 if he can keep this up. He is going to cash in and he is going to win these tournaments given what we’ve seen so far. So yeah, I don’t see that as a disappointment. I do think when it’s been a long time since you’ve won, you have to remember how to do it, and he’s remembering how to do it. I see that as a huge encouraging sign for Justin Thomas,” he said.

“He’s one of a handful of guys that can bring the crowd with him on the PGA Tour – and he knows it. And he did it this past weekend. He did it shooting 62 and tying the course record at Ponte Vedra the week before on the Friday, and the whole place was captivated by what he was doing. He had some of his best friends in the world right next to him on the 17th hole. He felt that energy and he thrived off it. So certainly he can do that.

“If he has to improve one thing, his driving accuracy numbers are off. He’s outside the top 100 in strokes gained off the tee and driving accuracy. That has to improve. When that guy puts himself in the fairway with a short club, he’s going flag-hunting and he’s making birdies.”

Justin Thomas’ 2025 PGA Tour stats

As Zarzour notes, driving appears to be the real Achilles heel within Thomas’ game right now. He is performing well in most other categories at the start of the season.

He is just inside the top 10 for total strokes gained as well as approach play. Meanwhile, he is inside the top 50 for around the green and putting.

But given that he is barely inside the top 50 for driving distance, and down in 104th for driving accuracy, it is no surprise that he appears to be losing so many shots off the tee right now.

There will be plenty of weeks where he is unstoppable if he can get the driving to click.
