Justin Rose might well feel he is running out of time to win The Open and add a second major to his career resume but he’s very much putting the time it seems ahead of Royal Portrush.
The Englishman has a US Open title to his name but has come agonisingly close twice to winning his home Open, with 2024 bringing a second placed finish behind Xander Schauffele.
Rose also narrowly missed out in 2018 and now at 44, he’ll know full well he’s not going to have too many more chances to win one.
However, Royal Portrush does give Rose a chance to put things right.
And ahead of the event in Ireland, Rose has been putting the work in by playing some practice rounds and in doing so, made a telling admission about his form in recent times.

Justin Rose says why he’s better in the majors than regular PGA Tour events
Justin Rose is a major champion but he is also in the conversation of those who have a few too many near misses.
We only have to look to this year at The Masters when Rose eventually lost out in a playoff to Rory McIlroy as another example.
However, he himself feels like his major form is in a good place after putting in the prep time at Portrush, Rose suggested it’s no fluke that he’s done well in the big tournaments.
“This preparation is very very important, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t. I wouldn’t say it’s vitally important because sometimes you know, it doesn’t work out. You could be here, you could be grafting but you can’t guarantee a result,” Rose commented.
“But I think over time, if you keep going and preparing this way over the course of 40-50 major championships, then it’s going to pay off. I’ve seen it pay off. Overall I’d say my performance in majors out performs my performance in regular tournaments, so that would be because of the preparation for me.”
