Justin Rose got the ideal boost for his major championship hopes at The Open next week with a stunning final round in the Scottish Open.

Rose came from nowhere to card a seven under par final round and at one point, he was the clubhouse leader on 11 under as others played out their rounds.

Eventually, Chris Gotterup beat Rory McIlroy to the punch to win at Renaissance Club and seal his spot at Royal Portrush next week.

With Ireland playing host to the final major of the year, Gotterup and the aforementioned Rose will be hoping to be in the mix to win around the famous old course.

And speaking ahead of flying to Portrush, Justin Rose has made a bit of a prediction.

Justin Rose says what might happen during The Open at Royal Portrush

Justin Rose is a golfer who seems to be timeless and just like the Masters this year, seems to go so close so often without getting the big ones over the line.

It’s a bit of a travesty that Rose has just a single major to his name but that’s where he finds himself ahead of next week.

Still, Rose is looking up and ahead of Royal Portrush, he’s given his verdict on the course and suggested we should be in for quite the week.

“Yeah, looks a mix, mixed bag from a weather point of view. I think we used up all of our luck this week Scotland. I think there is going to be some rain sneak into the forecast. Ireland does seem wetter up there than even here. Mixed bag, I would say. Be prepared for all eventualities.

“Doesn’t look like we have a crazy storm coming in, 13- or 14-mile-an-hour winds. Looks like your normal typical 5-, 10-, 15-mile-an-hour winds. With that in mind, you have to play some good golf and be aggressive and look for some birdies,” Rose said after his final round in Scotland.

Quizzed on just how good Portrush is, Rose predicted that the whole atmosphere will make for a special event.

“Yeah, Portrush is amazing. I was lucky enough to go there a couple weeks ago, and yeah, it’s a wonderful golf course. The whole area, they just love their golf up there.

“So I’m expecting a really fun tournament, good crowds, good energy, and yeah, should be a wonderful Open.”

Can Justin Rose finally win The Open?

If there is a tournament that a player like Justin Rose would want to win before he’s done in the game, it is The Open.

The history and prestige around the event means that every British player longs to get a win in the tournament and Rose is no different.

The Englishman has come up just short on more than one occasion and has a couple of T2’s to his name, including last year when Xander Schauffele beat him to the punch.

With Rose now into his 40s and going to the point where it’s getting harder and harder to keep up the big, modern player, the time could be now for him to finally add that Open Championship to his resume.
