Jordan Spieth went into the final day of the Sony Open in Hawaii with a real opportunity to make a statement at the start of the 2026 PGA Tour season.

It looks to be imperative that Jordan Spieth enjoys an impressive year after he failed to finish inside the top 50 in the FedEx Cup in 2025.

What do you expect from Jordan Spieth in 2026?

Will he win on the PGA Tour this season?

He went into Sunday at Waialae just outside the top 10 after posting three rounds of 68. Unfortunately, he was unable to find that next gear on the last day.

A round of 69 left Spieth in a tie for 24th, nine shots back of Chris Gotterup.

Jordan Spieth reflects on his performance at the Sony Open in Hawaii

Spieth remains such an important figure on the PGA Tour. He is one of the players who moves the needle when it comes to television ratings – despite his struggles in recent years.

So it would certainly be a boost for the tour to see the Texan get back to something like his best over the coming months.

And while he was left with mixed feelings about his performance at the Sony Open in Hawaii, Spieth insisted that he was pleased with aspects of his game.

“Yeah, I thought I kicked some rust off. I thought it was better than a month ago. Certainly a lot of positives to go off. Historically I’ve had a really hard time on these greens; that continued this week,” he said.

“But I’ll go into some more familiar ones coming up the next few events. I got either a week or two weeks depending on when I play next to kind of trim the fat a little bit and get tighter and more consistent.

“But I was very happy with the control of the ball, especially in the conditions. Then today was a day to take advantage and got off to a nice start and unfortunately was just a little off today with the striking and with the putting.

“Days like that happen. You kind of hope they happen on Monday and not on Sunday. It was a little bit of an off day, but all in all coming into the week I felt pretty confident about where things were at, so I would’ve liked to maybe finish higher.

“It was a nice finish birdieing the last couple and feeling like I can take some momentum into the beginning of the season and hopefully get on a nice little run.”

Spieth’s encouraging strokes gained numbers at Waialae

Fans have become accustomed to seeing Spieth go from the sublime to the ridiculous in a matter of moments.

He has the talent to produce the shot of the tournament at any event. But in truth, it is even more likely that he is going to put himself in serious trouble and threaten to play himself out of contention.

So it is almost uncharacteristic to see him post three rounds of 68. He also ended the week at Waialae with positive strokes gained numbers in every category.

Perhaps it is a sign that Spieth is getting closer to putting the foundations in place to enable him to potentially get back closer to the top of the game.
