Jordan Spieth has issued his verdict on Sedgefield Country Club as the North Carolina course prepares to host the Wyndham Championship as the thoughts of many turn to the FedEx Cup play-offs looming on the horizon.

Jordan Spieth is one of those looking over his shoulder heading into the Wyndham Championship, with the 31-year-old currently sat 63rd in the FedEx Cup standings. Of course, it is the top 70 who qualify for the St Jude Championship.

Spieth is unlikely to drop out of the top 70 in the coming days, but he is also looking to ensure that he qualifies for the signature events next year. So it is important that he has a good week at the Wyndham, particularly after such a turbulent season.

Thankfully, it seems that Spieth is excited for this event as he shared what he thinks about the course which has hosted the tournament since 2008.

“I think this is one of the better tracks that we got the opportunity to play all year. It obviously has a lot of drama to it, we saw it with the play-offs moving to 70, whether it’s the play-offs or people making moves for eligibility, there’s a lot at stake at this event. My goal this week is to move up as far as I can in the FedEx Cup and move into the play-offs on a high note,” he said.

“I love the golf course, I think it’s spectacular, you can’t hide your game and I like the Bermuda. You’ve got to think your way around it, you can’t really miss above the hole around here. And then, when you’re on the green, it requires a lot of precision and touch.”

A player probably looking to seeing the back of 2024

It seems clear that golf fans are unlikely to see the best of Spieth in 2024. It is now well over two years since his last victory on the PGA Tour, while he has twice as many missed cuts as top 10 finishes this season.

Obviously, he will be desperate to ensure that he has a ticket to the biggest PGA Tour events next year, and he may be hoping to make a late push for a captain’s pick at the Presidents Cup. But he is someone who will be hoping to use the off-season productively.

He is yet to rediscover his best form since sustaining the wrist injury that clearly remains in the back of his mind. But if he can move past that, he is too good a player not to get back to the top again.
