Jon Rahm is one of the LIV representatives at the Paris Olympics, and the Spaniard has shared his thoughts on the event at Le Golf National.

The 72-hole competition gets underway on Thursday, and there are some concerns about the stroke play format.

Rahm, however, will have no issue with the traditional nature of the event after landing his first LIV Golf victory at JCB last weekend.

The Spaniard has been tipped to win the gold medal at Le Golf National and fend off American heavyweights Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele in the process.

Rahm was forced to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics, and the two-time major champion has now spoken about what it means to represent his country in Paris.

Talking after his LIV Golf UK victory at JCB, Rahm spoke of what golf and the 2024 Olympics mean to him.

“I have thought about that question, and I really don’t have the perfect answer,” he explained. “The Olympics, unfortunately, were not a possibility for any of us until 2016. Since then, there have been two editions, and with me not being able to go to Tokyo because of COVID-19, I might have been a little bitter watching that.”

The 29-year-old added: “It’s hard to position myself where the magnitude of something like that may be, but to be able to say that you have an Olympic medal is something that a very small group of people in all of human history can say. I don’t think it has the recognition that it could have yet, but in the future, this may be one of those things that we are aware of right now.”

Rahm admitted that he would find it hard to rank an Olympic medal compared to golf’s four major championships.

“Just to add to the Spanish medal count would be amazing,” he explained. I can’t put it in a ranking based on majors and things like that yet, but if I were to get it done on Sunday, ask me then because you can usually tell on that 18th green how it feels.”

Rahm is one of the favourites to land gold this week, and it’s easy to see why. The Spaniard is consistently finishing in the top five on LIV and also finished T7 at last week’s Open Championship.

There’s lots to like about his game at the moment, and after his win at JCB, he’s shown he can get a tournament over the line.

Furthermore, during LIV’s event in Uttoxeter, Rahm had to bounce back from a disappointing second round and deal with intense pressure from his Legion XIII teammate Tyrrell Hatton.

The Spaniard was also part of the European Ryder Cup team, who dominated during the 2018 edition at Le Golf National.
