Jon Rahm is just about still in contention to win LIV Andalucia on Sunday, and the same can be said for Dustin Johnson.

Crowd favourite Rahm and the resurgent Johnson are both sitting in a strong position after day two at LIV Golf Andalucia.

However, the Spaniard is six shots back of the leader, Talor Gooch, while the American is just four back.

Rahm’s incredible record of consecutive top-10s on LIV ended in Dallas at the end of last month.

He has been in stunning form this season, and a win is surely not too far around the corner.

Meanwhile, Johnson has struggled this season, with just three top-10 finishes to his name.

Johnson has really struggled over the past two years in major championships, but he proved that he still has the ability to compete on any given day.

Jon Rahm admits being surprised by Dustin Johnson at LIV Golf Andalucia

Rahm played well himself on day two of LIV Golf Andalucia, and posted a round of one-under par 70.

However, he is now a long way back of Gooch, with just 18 holes remaining.

Rahm was asked by reporters how he is feeling after his opening two rounds at Valderrama.

He said: Really good round of golf in general. Everything was good. Even the putts I didn’t make, they felt good. It was just short. I just didn’t quite get them to the hole. Had better speed, obviously a couple of those might have gone in, and it would have been a different day. It’s just such a tricky golf course, and it got windier as the day went on. It’s just never easy.

Not that I’m surprised, but a little bit at some of the scores at 7-under, 5-under. Is it doable? Yes. But you need to play really good golf, which is obviously what they did.

Rahm is spot on there. Johnson and Gooch played sensationally well to shoot seven-under and five-under par respectively.

Dustin Johnson says he was frustrated before even teeing off at LIV Andalucia

Johnson’s flawless round at Valderrama on Saturday really was an absolute pleasure to watch.

His bogey-free 64 was quite simply stunning.

However, before his round had even begun, he was rather frustrated it seems.

Johnson spoke to reporters after his scintillating 64 and responded when asked what he felt about bogeying two holes to complete the delayed first round early on Friday morning.

He said: Well, still, even yesterday — yesterday the conditions were extremely difficult. I felt like I played really well and was 2-over, which wasn’t a bad score. Then I felt like coming out this morning that I had three holes left. Hit a nice shot into 2 and then just missed a couple putts. But I still felt like I was swinging good, so I knew I could come out this afternoon and shoot a really good score.

Obviously it didn’t finish how I wanted it to, so I was a little frustrated with the way I finished this morning, especially with it not playing very tough, first thing.

But it was just one of those things, you just had to forget about it, go out, try to shoot a good score.

Maybe Johnson should try to be frustrated more often before he tees off!
