Johnson Wagner has revealed what several LIV Golf caddies told him about Bryson DeChambeau ahead of the US Open as the 30-year-old went on to clinch his second major title at Pinehurst No. 2 on Sunday.

Had golf fans been told a few years ago that Bryson DeChambeau would capitalise on a Rory McIlroy collapse to deny the Northern Irishman his first major title in a decade, they would have probably predicted that the atmosphere in North Carolina would become so flat.

However, DeChambeau has gone through something of a transformation in the last few years, and now has to be amongst the most popular players the game has.

So DeChambeau’s win sparked a party atmosphere around the 18th green, with the 30-year-old keen to involve the fans in his celebrations.

What LIV caddies were saying about Bryson DeChambeau before US Open

Some have questioned how genuine DeChambeau is, with some clearly open to the idea that he is on some manufactured charm offensive to improve his image.

But if that is the case, DeChambeau seems to be doing an incredible job of fooling everyone, with Johnson Wagner telling the two-time major champion on Golf Channel that he has been so blown away by his turnaround.

“I am so impressed by everything you did. I was standing out here watching, you came out here and graciously shock my hand,” he said.

“I really enjoyed Tuesday and walking with you. As a person that liked you but just didn’t know what was going on, I am so happy.

“I talked to a bunch of caddies from LIV, they landed in Charlotte where I landed Monday and I said I think I am going to do a walk and talk with Bryson. And they said ‘dude you wouldn’t believe, he is like the greatest dude now’. So it’s good to see it happening. I’m proud of you.”

Does it really matter if DeChambeau is being genuine or not?

If DeChambeau is genuine, then you have to say that it is absolutely brilliant to see him being rewarded with one of the sport’s biggest prizes again.

Ultimately, it does not matter a great deal to a lot of golf fans as the world will probably never know for sure what he is like behind the scenes. Clearly, so many absolutely love DeChambeau, the way he plays the game and the way that he now conducts himself on the golf course.

And it appears to be having such a positive impact on his golf, with DeChambeau now one of the very best on the planet right now. He has finished inside the top six at all three majors so far this year.

Many inside the ropes obviously could not be happier for him.
