Johnson Wagner has shared what Brian Harman has said to him about the eight PGA Tour signature events after the conclusion of the Travelers Championship last week.

Scottie Scheffler wrapped up his fourth signature event win at TPC River Highlands after previously winning the RBC Heritage, Memorial and the Arnold Palmer at Bay Hill.

It’s been a relentless run of form from the world number one, who has undoubtedly made the most of the two percent increase in prize money for winners of the signature competitions this season.

With smaller fields sometimes not including a cut, many players prefer the eight signature events – and Wagner has now shared Harman’s view.

What Brian Harman thinks about signature events

Speaking on the latest edition of the Smylie Show, Johnson claimed the lefty loves the eight events.

“I talked to Brian Harman at the Players, and he loves the signature events,” he said. “Practice rounds don’t take forever; there’s no crowd and player dining.”

Wagner added: “These players love the smaller field, and I would look at the best golf tournament in the world, and that’s the Masters.

“It’s roughly 88 to 95 players every year. I think the number should be in the 90s, and you cut to 50 and ties every signature event. 120 is too much. Just take the model of the Masters for signature events.

“Take 90-something guys and cut it to 45. It’s doing damage to the Monday pro-am and damage to the Wednesday pro-am. It’s doing damage to the tournament having hospitality all four days and making money to ultimately give back to local charities.”

PGA Tour star wants to break into signature event circuit

Those in the OWGR top 30 and top 50 from the previous season’s FedEx Cup points list are all eligible to compete in signature events, so breaking into those lists is mightily important.

One player who has featured in just one signature event – the Arnold Palmer Invitational – is Min Woo Lee.

The Aussie has had to take a watching berth for the Memorial, Wells Fargo and last week’s Travelers Championship.

The 25-year-old is competing in this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic in a bid to increase his current ranking ahead of the play-offs.

“Obviously, to get into the signature events,” he explained. “That was one thing this year that I missed out on. I would’ve really loved to have played those events. That’s one of the bigger goals.”

The flagship PGA Tour events have certainly been exciting this season. With one or two slight alterations, as Wagner mentioned, the eight tournaments could be even better for the 2025 campaign.
