It is almost frightening to think that it was 10 years ago that Jordan Spieth confirmed his spot as a superstar of the golfing world with his emphatic victory at the 2015 Masters.
Jordan Spieth had been in the mix to mark his Masters debut with a win in 2014. However, the Texan would have to wait 12 months to win the green jacket as he lost out to Bubba Watson in his first appearance at Augusta National.
Spieth opened up the 2015 event with a 64 on Thursday, giving him a three-shot lead. He would ultimately win by four shots over Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose after getting to 18 under par. At the time, it was the joint lowest score at The Masters in history.
Spieth should have won again in 2016. And remarkably, he has six top five finishes in 11 appearances at the first major of the year. However, it is no secret that the last few years have not been so kind to the 31-year-old.
Johnson Wagner makes Jordan Spieth prediction ahead of The Masters
He has missed the cut in two of his last three appearances. Meanwhile, he has had some incredibly mixed results on the PGA Tour at the start of 2025, including a missed cut at the Genesis Invitational and a tied fourth place finish at WM Phoenix Open.

Interestingly, Johnson Wagner is seemingly optimistic that returning to Augusta will bring out the best in Spieth, as he shared his prediction for how well he will perform next week.
“Golf course like Augusta for Jordan with no real rough, I think his escapability and wedge play, no matter where he misses it, with a few exceptions, he can get it out to 60 yards and get it up and down. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jordan finish top 10, but I don’t think he’ll be a factor,” he said.
Wagner also assesses Justin Thomas’ chances at Augusta National
Wagner was also asked about Justin Thomas‘ fortunes at The Masters. And while he stopped short of making a prediction, he did hint that his most recent performance gives him all kinds of confidence.
“JT’s putting Sunday at Valspar was unbelievable, and that’s been kind of the thing that I’ve looked for because I think he would’ve given Sepp a run for his money at Amex had he putted Sunday there like he did at Valspar,” he said.
Like Collin Morikawa, Thomas has done everything but win in recent months. He finished second at the ZOZO Championship, The American Express and now the Valspar Championship.
But history may not be on Thomas’ side. He has missed the cut in the last two years at Augusta. And his best result – fourth place – came when The Masters was played at the other end of the season in 2020.
So some may be reluctant to back Thomas to finally end that current wait for a win at the first major of the year.
