Davis Thompson is in a great position to defend the John Deere Classic title that he won last year.
The 26-year-old leads the John Deere Classic field after three rounds, following an extremely well-crafted round of four-under par 67 on Saturday.
Thompson’s victory at TPC Deere Run in 2024 was his maiden win on the PGA Tour, and he’s still waiting for his second.
Incredibly, Thompson was compared to Scottie Scheffler after winning the John Deere Classic last year.
Whilst that comparison might have been made a little prematurely, the man from Atlanta, Georgia, definitely has a lot of talent.
And securing another win this season will be vital for Thompson’s development and progress as a player.
John Deere leader Davis Thompson reveals what his caddie said to him on the 10th
Thompson was struggling at TPC Deere Run during his front-nine on Saturday.
Two birdies, two bogeys and five pars saw him complete a lacklustre front side in even-par 35.

However, everything changed on the back nine, as Thompson posted four birdies and five pars to shoot a 67.
After his round, Thompson was asked to explain how he went on to shoot a 32 on the back-nine, having made a really underwhelming start to his round.
He said: “Not much as far as ball striking. Feel like I was hitting it solid; just didn’t really score great on the front. My caddie gave me a pep talk on 10 tee and I was able to finish strong.
Yeah, nice to kind of have some momentum going into tomorrow.
“My caddie told me to flush the last two holes, missing those two short putts, and focus on the task at hand going forward. I was able to make a nice birdie on 10 and then made three more coming in. That was good.“
Great work from the caddie there and once again, it goes to show just how important the man on the bag is for touring professionals.
Davis Thompson on excitement ahead of John Deere Classic final round
After his round, Thompson was asked whether he is approaching the final round of the John Deere Classic with excitement.
He said: “Yeah, I mean, I’m really excited. Excited to go compete. I feel like I’ve been working hard. Yeah, golf is a weird game. Feel like I was kind of trending last year into this tournament and obviously played well.
“This year kind of feels the same way. You know, yeah, like you said, I can’t really focus on last year. Excited to be in this position again this year.“
He was then asked how he plans to keep his adrenaline in check during the final round on Sunday.
He responded: “Yeah, deep breaths, one step at a time, make sure I’m sticking to my routines and eating something, putting something in my body every three holes, and staying hydrated. Been a long, pretty hot week.“
It should be a fantastic final day at TPC Deere Run for the fans, with so many players in contention right now.
If Thompson ends up winning, he will seriously catapult himself up the Official Golf World Rankings and the FedEx Cup points standings.
