John Daly remains one of golf’s great enigmas and in what appears to be good news for golf fans, he’s getting ready to return to competitive golf action.
Daly – a two-time major winner on the PGA Tour – is still active when he can be on the Champions Tour and played 16 times in 2024, missing the cut just once.
However, Daly has not been seen for a while now and while he has been doing the rounds on certain social media channels and YouTube channels, he hasn’t played competitively since the PNC Championship in December.
But now, it looks like Daly is ready to give things another go and he’s revealed some painful injury news as to why he’s been missing.

John Daly shares injury issues as he plots return to golf
Daly is due to tee it up in the HOAG Classic this weekend in California and the two-time major winner appears to have made a big push to make sure he’s playing.
And after the PGA Champions Tour filmed him hitting some practice shots, Daly revealed he’d been struggling massively with a hand problem.
“It’s good to be back. It’s been a little bit brutal but the hands about 80%. So I figured I would come here. I love playing in the Hoag ever year. The guys are so great. We will see what happens. I just missed playing,” Daly said.
Questioned on how his hand actually is, Daly admitted he’d been through yet another surgery.
“Well when Doctor McClimans looked before we were going to put a shot in he goes ‘let me x-ray this to be safe’. The tendons were all wrapped around each other, he doesn’t understand how I played last year.
“But he puts the two tendons back and attached it to the forefinger. 16 surgeries in four years, I have lost count pretty much.”
John Daly’s PGA Champions Tour record
While he might not have the wins of a Padraig Harrington or a Bernhard Langer on the PGA Tour Champions, John Daly is still one of the biggest names around.
Daly has had some success on the over 50s tour, winning The Insperity Invitational in 2017.
However, that is his only win on the tour in 142 starts and Daly will surely be looking to add to that over the course of 2025 if he can stay fit.
Daly’s record though is good in the main and he’s only missed the cut nine times out of 142, with 14 top ten finishes and six top fives to his name as well.
In terms of money, Daly has earned $2,360,921 on the senior tour, a fifth of what he earned from his PGA Tour career in general at $10,270,681.
