When it comes to the greatest golf swings of all-time, players such as Ben Hogan, Mickey Wright and Adam Scott will come to mind for many.
While Scottie Scheffler has proved in recent times that having a textbook golf swing is not essential if you want to have success, there does appear to be a fondness for those who had the kind of actions you could watch on the range all day and never get bored.
Some seemed to have a tempo to die for, like Fred Couples. Meanwhile, it is impossible not to be impressed by the effortless power Rory McIlroy seems to generate.
And of course, few will feel that nothing will ever compete with the way Tiger Woods would swing the club. Butch Harmon noted that he had not seen anyone unwind the body like Woods could since Ben Hogan.
Joe Mayo names his favourite golf swing of all-time
But it is another player who left a lasting impression on Joe Mayo – the man who has recently had a couple of spells working with Viktor Hovland.
Speaking on No Laying Up, Mayo named the player with what he would consider to be the most impressive swing of all-time.

“My good friend Tommy Armour III, Tommy’s played with everybody right, Tommy’s 63 now, he’s played with them all. He said, ‘Joe, the best golfer I’ve ever seen is Corey Pavin’. He said the most gifted golfer is John Daly, which I concur,” he said.
“If you were to say, ‘Joe, what is your favourite golf swing in the history of golf?’ I would say John Daly circa 1991. Oh my god, wow, are you kidding me? He could hit it 280 when 280 was 280.”
The complex legacy of John Daly
Few players seem to be loved quite like Daly amongst many golf fans. His legend has almost grown because of the fact that the world probably never got to see his full potential as he battled his demons.
Clearly, there were few players with his ability. Woods once claimed he would not practice as much if he had Daly’s talent. And he is a two-time major champion – with his first win coming at the PGA Championship in 1991.
It seems ridiculous that Daly never played on a US Ryder Cup team – making him the only eligible player to win two majors and not feature in the event.
Whatever you think of him, there is no question at all that there have been few players quite like John Daly in the game’s history.
