Joaquín Niemann looks to be on course to secure his fifth win of the season on Sunday, with the Chilean six shots clear of the rest of the field at LIV Golf UK.
Joaquín Niemann is becoming the man to beat in the first LIV Golf event after a major, it seems. The 26-year-old previously won in Mexico City after The Masters and in Virginia after the PGA Championship.
It seems that Niemann is going to bounce back from his missed cut at The Open Championship by winning LIV Golf UK.
Niemann followed up his first round of 65 with a 63 on Saturday at JCB. That leaves the Torque captain six shots clear of Bubba Watson with just 18 holes to play.
Joaquín Niemann shares what left him laughing during the second round at LIV Golf UK
Unsurprisingly, Niemann leads the way in the individual standings on LIV this year ahead of Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau. He had an absolutely amazing season with four victories under his belt.
But it appears that one part of his game completely caught him off-guard during the second round in England. Speaking after the round, Niemann admitted that he was baffled by the success he had on the greens.

“Yeah, obviously it was a great round. I really enjoyed being out there, playing the golf I was playing today,” he said.
“I had a good time. Had a good pairing with Gracey and Adrian. I had a great time. I made a lot of putts. I was laughing at it sometimes because I’m not used to seeing so many of those going in, and it’s kind of cool to see that.
“Other than that, I hit some good shots. Everything felt pretty much under control, off the tee, irons, putting. Yeah, just pretty happy the way I’ve been going through the last two days.”
Why Joaquín Niemann seems to love playing at JCB as latest LIV Golf win looms
Niemann has plenty of fond memories at JCB. He finished in a tie for second last year, one shot back of Rahm as the Spaniard secured his first win since joining the league.
It is hard to imagine Niemann not standing on the top spot on the podium on Sunday. And he explained why he thinks JCB seems to play to his strengths.
“Yeah, I think it’s a great course for my eyes. I feel like there’s a lot of blind shots. There’s a lot of left-to-right shots, left-to-right, right-to-left. You’ve got to move it around. You’ve got to use different types of shots off the tee, as well. I feel pretty confident on this course. Hopefully I can improve one position from last year, and I’ll be pretty happy,” he added.
Niemann definitely needs to improve his record in the major championships in the years to come. He is simply too good to only have one top 10 in the four biggest events of the year.
But he is unquestionably LIV Golf’s biggest success story. And it appears that he is going to break his own record for the most wins in the league’s history on Sunday.
