There has arguably been no moment in the game of golf over the last 50 years which has caused greater upheaval than the formation of LIV Golf, with PIF turning the professional game on its head in the last three years.

It has been an extremely strange time for golf fans. For the large majority of the last three decades, the PGA Tour has been, by some distance, out in front as the leading tour, with the DP World Tour also having a crucial role to play.

However, LIV Golf‘s arrival sparked a civil war which golf is still trying to work through. Nevertheless, it does appear that LIV is very much here to stay in the game. And with that, some will be wondering whether another league could start up for the women’s game.

Charley Hull previously said that she would be mad not to consider joining LIV if given the chance. And at a time when the women’s game seems to be getting stronger and stronger, it is obviously a fantastic time to get involved.

Jessica Korda suggests whether they could be a LIV Golf league in the women’s game

However, speaking on The Smylie Show, Jessica Korda suggested that she is not convinced that a LIV Golf league in the women’s game will work.

“I think their impact would be how it is on the LET with the Aramco Team Series. I don’t think feel like there was any serious talk about the LIV women’s. You always hear rumours. But I think that their contribution to the women’s side, has been elevating the Ladies European Tour because they were struggling. I think that they almost lost that tour as well. And the Aramco Team Series came about, it really elevated them, their purses. A lot of girls, they’re not making that much money, I’ve talked to a lot of those girls and they would love to retire and start families, but they just don’t have the funds for it,” she said.

“So I think them coming in and being able to elevate the LET has been fantastic, and we go over there to try and support as best we can. But having a LIV women’s, I feel like everyone’s always just interested because everyone would want to know what that would be like. But in the ecosystem that we’re in, I’m not sure if there’s space for it.”

Why the LPGA cannot grow complacent amid recent criticism

While Korda is not anticipating a LIV Golf league in the women’s game anytime soon, it does seem to be imperative that the LPGA Tour does not grow complacent.

It has been a positive season for the tour. But the LPGA have been accused of not capitalising on the potential it has. And change is coming, with Mollie Marcoux Samaan announcing that she will be standing down as commissioner in January.

The LPGA would be wise to heed the warnings from the problems the men’s game has had in recent years.
