Jason Day continues to roll back the years at the BMW Championship but the Australian has now conceded he does have half an eye on when things might have to come to an end.

Day, a PGA Championship winner from his spell on top of the game back in 2015, continues to be impressive on TOUR and has won as recently as the Byron Nelson in 2023.

He has 13 wins on the PGA Tour and alongside his major win in ’15, he’s also finished second in every other major, including at The Open just two years ago.

Now at the BMW Championship and contending in the FedEx Cup, Day finds himself two-under and six off the leader, Bob MacIntyre.

However, while he’s enjoying his golf, he has hinted to the media he’s got eyes on when he might step away from the game.

Jason Day says when he might retire from the PGA Tour

For a player like Jason Day, it feels like he’s been around forever and actually closer to the end of his career than the beginning.

However, in truth, Day is still just 37 and as we’ve seen with Justin Rose and others recently, age can be just a number.

Still, after coming in at two-under from round one of the BMW, Day admitted that his body isn’t quite holding up as it used to.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s, I feel more disappointed that my body didn’t quite hold up as well as I’d hoped. But with that being said, going through what I went through with my body and then finally feeling like I’m out of it now and I feel very healthy, that’s always a positive,” Day admitted.

“This is the end of my, East Lake will be the end of my 18th season out here on the TOUR, so that’s quite a long time. I feel like if I can keep myself healthy, not only physically but also mentally, I feel like I can stay out here until I’m 50.

“Looking back on it, if you could say that I could spend another 12 years out here and say, hey, man, you’ve been out on TOUR for 30 years, I’m more than blessed; know what I mean? I’ve just got to have more of a gratitude feeling and know that, yes, I do want to be out there and I do want to go through those feelings and emotions when you’re close to the lead and playing really good week in and week out, and that’s something that I’m trying to build back towards.”

Jason Day’s PGA Tour record

Jason Day has been one of the big success stories to come out of Australian sport in recent decades.

A major winner on the PGA Tour and a 19-time winner worldwide, Day has effectively done it all and more in his career.

Right now, he could retire at 37 and look back on a career that has brought him so much and ultimately, be proud of that career.

However, surely he has more in the tank to offer as well? Yes, it’s good to have an eye on retirement and physical factors play into it.

But at 37, there’s arguably another major in there for Day and you’d like to think he continues.
