Jake Knapp set a PGA Tour record in Detroit at the Rocket Classic on Friday.
Knapp got his tournament off to a really slow start on round one, when he posted an extremely mediocre round of level-par 72, and he found himself outside of the top 100.
However, he catapulted himself back inside the top 10 at the Rocket Classic with a stunning 11-under par 61 on day two – a round that consisted of nine birdies, one eagle and eight pars.
The 31-year-old from Costa Mesa, California, is well-known for his ability to go low on the PGA Tour…very low.

Knapp was lauded for his 12-under par round of 59 at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches in March.
His immense power off the tee means that if his iron play is on-point, he will always fancy his chances of going low.
Jake Knapp makes PGA Tour history at the Rocket Classic
Knapp was on fire at Detroit Golf Club on Friday.
He actually could have shot even lower than 61, but he would have been delighted with his round in the end.
The Californian actually broke a PGA Tour record with his scintillating play in Motown.

Firstly, Knapp broke the course record at Detroit Golf Club with his round of 61. Amazingly, the previous record of 62 was only set one day before by Kevin Roy and Aldrich Potgieter.
However, he actually did something on Friday that has not been done before on the PGA Tour since its inception in 1975.
Knapp became the first man to ever shoot a sub-60 round and a round of 61 or lower in the same season.
The 31-year-old has also become the first man to shoot two rounds of 61 or lower this season.
Jake Knapp’s 2025 PGA Tour stats
Despite some outstanding rounds, Knapp hasn’t lived up to his potential on the PGA Tour in 2025.
Here is how his stats look so far this season:
| Results and stats | Knapp’s finishes and ranking |
| Events played | 17 |
| Wins | 0 |
| Top-10s | 2 |
| Missed cuts | 5 |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 121st |
| Strokes gained approach | 65th |
| Strokes gained putting | 22nd |
| Strokes gained total | 54th |
Knapp clearly needs to start driving the ball better, if he’s to get himself back inside the winners’ circle.
He is one of the longest hitters in the game but he’s currently sitting well down 159th position in the driving accuracy standings, and that has to change moving forward.
That said, it’s hard to criticise Knapp after he became the first man in PGA Tour history to shoot sub-60 round before posting another round of 61 or lower in the same season.
