Francesco Molinari has suggested that he has just one goal in mind right now and that’s to be part of Europe’s Ryder Cup team in 2025.

Molinari was one of the late selections to be one of Luke Donald’s vice-captains for the successful win over the Americans in Rome last year. The Italian was there alongside his brother, Eduardo, to help Europe to a big win.

However, Molinari’s bread and butter is playing golf and winning. The 41-year-old has won six times in Europe and twice on the PGA Tour, with the 2018 Open Championship being his highlight win.

Francesco Molinari wants 2025 Ryder Cup slot

Molinari shot an impressive 15-under this weekend in Dubai to finish fifth behind the likes of Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy.

And speaking to the DP Tour’s Green Room after the tournament, Molinari admitted he’s happy to be playing good golf again and has eyes on Bethpage in 2025.

“It was a nice day today. Nice to see I can still play some decent golf. Not for the year ahead (when asked about setting specific goals). I’ve got one goal in mind and it’s in two years and I think you can work out pretty easily what it is. So it’s a long way to go. I just want to play some decent golf and enjoy my time on the course a little bit more because it’s been a pretty miserable time the last few years” Molinari said.

Molinari will be an outsider for European pick

Given the amount of talent in Europe right now, it’s not disrespectful to say that Molinari is likely to be one of the more outside picks.

However, given his start this week in Dubai, it’s not something you can put past him. Only a select few players are good enough to win majors and Molinari is among those players.

If he can focus, get his game in a good position and put himself in positions to be in with a chance of winning like he did this weekend, then he’s got every chance.

Clearly, watching the clip here, Molinari has found golf tough in recent years.

Hopefully, then, he can get back to his very best and in the end, force his way into Luke Donald’s team on the playing side, rather than as part of the management team.
