While Angel Yin had the much longer putt on the 18th green on Sunday at the CME Group Tour Championship as she and Jeeno Thitikul found themselves tied for the lead, you really could not blame anyone who made Yin the favourite to make the birdie that would potentially win her $4 million.
It was a fantastic end to the LPGA season, with Angel Yin and Jeeno Thitikul battling it out for the CME Group Tour Championship. Of course, the event was being played for the largest ever cheque in women’s golf, but neither player gave any indication that the nerves were getting to them.
Ultimately, Thitikul – who has even outshone Nelly Korda in many ways – finished with an eagle and a birdie to get across the line. Yin meanwhile, can take so many positives from her performance at Tiburón Golf Club.
And there is absolutely no question at all what the strength of Yin’s game was across the week. The 26-year-old was unbelievably lethal with the putter on all four days.
Angel Yin lauded for ‘incredible’ performance at the CME Group Tour Championship
Remarkably, she managed to hole more than 600 feet of putts across the tournament. And speaking on Sky Sports (broadcast on 24/11), Trish Johnson suggested that she has never heard anything like those numbers before.

“Yes, she missed that putt on 17, I suppose you could say that’s the one time the pressure maybe got to her. But I have to say that she did an incredible job,” she said.
“And I’ve never heard of anybody, 600 foot of putts plus in one tournament. As far as I know, that’s by far and away that’s the best I’ve ever heard anytime, anywhere.”
How Yin’s putting heroics compare with some of the best displays in PGA Tour history
It is hard to fathom just how prolific Yin was with the flat stick across the tournament. Obviously, she averaged more than 150 feet of putts holed per day – and maintaining that across four rounds is an outrageous accomplishment.
As of 2019, the record for the best performance on the PGA Tour was 551 feet, 2 inches, which came from Ben Martin at the 2015 Charles Schwab Challenge.
| Event | Player | Length of putts holed |
| 2015 Charles Schwab Challenge | Ben Martin | 551 feet, 2 inches |
| 2017 Wells Fargo Championship | Zac Blair | 546 feet, 11 inches |
| 2017 Houston Open | Russell Henley | 541 feet, 10 inches |
| 2014 Houston Open | Shawn Stefani | 541 feet, 1 inch |
Meanwhile, Cam Smith – who is widely considered to be one of the best putters on the planet – had a personal best of 415 feet during his time on the PGA Tour.
Not only should that give Yin all kinds of confidence that she can make a much faster start to her 2025 season, but it also highlights just how phenomenally Thitikul played just to beat her this past week.
