Scottie Scheffler might be the best golfer in the world right now but even he has had a ‘wow’ moment playing alongside Tiger Woods.

Woods is not taking part in The Players this weekend as he misses out. The 15-time major winner has to pick his events sporadically these days and this one has come too soon since he withdrew from the Genesis.

However, ever the ‘GOAT’ in golf, Woods always comes up in press conferences ahead of big tournaments, whether he’s there or not.

And speaking in his presser today, world number one Scheffler was full of praise for Tiger, and admitted he’d done something that blew his mind when they paired at the 2020 Masters.

Speaking about Woods (Sky Sports), Scheffler shared his admiration for Woods, before admitting to being blown away by three of Tiger’s iron shots at Augusta.

“He’s definitely the best player I’ve ever seen and I think he’s the best player we’ve ever had. Anytime he can stand out there and we can walk alongside him is really special. I’ve had the pleasure of playing with him at The Masters. It was the day he made the ten. That’s the thing, he’s just so much different to the rest of us. He’s won so many golf tournaments and he makes a ten on the 12th at Augusta, then he birdies five of the last six holes. It’s Sunday, completely meaningless to him at that stage of his career like what’s the point? I kid you not, he hit – to this day – three of the best iron shots I’ve ever seen coming into those last three holes and it was just unbelievable to watch. So anytime we can get him out competing and playing is really special for all of us,” Scheffler said.

Woods is fully expected to part of the field at Augusta this year. Indeed, it was the last major he won and as we know, Scheffler has also won it since then as well.

Of course, Tiger won’t be one of the favourites this year. But just getting him out on the course, as Scheffler says, always has a special feel to it these days.
