In a world dominated by big hitters who carry the ball well over 330 yards, many assume the modern-day professional is tall and highly athletic.

This assumption is usually correct. One only needs to glance at Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Ludvig Aberg to realise the physical prowess of the game’s elite players; DeChambeau even admitted putting on extreme amounts of muscle was a mistake after pushing his body to the limit in 2021.

However, some PGA Tour professionals have forged successful careers without being blessed with the ideal physical attributes. At the top end of the game, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele have been able to compete despite being shorter and less physically dominated than their nearest competitors.

However, Morikawa’s five-foot-nine-inch frame should be considered tall when compared to the shortest player in Tour history.

Meet Tadd Fujikawa, currently the shortest player to ever compete on the PGA Tour. The 33-year-old, who was born in Hawaii, measures five feet one inch (1.55m). Fujikawa made his PGA Tour debut in 2007. Aged 16, the American made the cut at the Sony Open, becoming the second youngest player in history to do so.

Fujikawa went on to play 15 PGA Tour events, making the cut five times and earning $130,000 in prize money. The 33-year-old’s last outing came during the 2017 Sony Open in Hawaii, where he missed the cut after finishing six over.

Interestingly, for such a short player, Fujikawa is capable of bombing his drives and averaged over 303 yards during his last PGA Tour outing in 2017. Furthermore, the American’s longest drive was 350 yards, which is in line with modern elite-level standards.

Other short players who have enjoyed successful careers include Gary Player, Brian Harman, Ian Woosnam and Gene Sarazen.

Tallest players on the PGA Tour

Looking at the other end of the spectrum, there have been some giants on the PGA Tour.

Six feet eight-inch American Jordan Hahn became the tallest player in PGA Tour history back in 2021 when he teed off at the Copperhead Course in Florida.

South African Chris Lamprecht, who is getting set for this week’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship, also stands at six-foot eight-inches. Lamprecht won the low amateur at the 2023 Open Championship. Unsurprisingly, the 23-year-old has been hampered by a persistent back injury over the past year.

Aberg, Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Tony Finau and Sahith Theegala are just a few of the OWGR top ten who stand well over six feet tall.
