The PGA Tour is preparing to kick into gear with some big events coming in the next few months, and The Players at TPC Sawgrass is one of the very biggest on the calendar.
PGA Tour players around the world often consider The Players as golf’s fifth major and outside of winning the four majors, winning at Sawgrass is seen as a huge deal.
Last year, Scottie Scheffler won the event as part of his memorable 2024 season and he’ll be hoping to retain his title in 2025.

However, Scheffler might have more competition this time around.
There are suggestions that LIV Golf players could play at The Players after the PGA Tour and Donald Trump met over a potential deal with LIV and the PIF.
Indeed, there are even suggestions LIV could be killed off entirely, depending on just how those talks end up concluding.
Of course, suggestions of LIV golfers appearing at The Players is the standout headline among the current news cycle, and over on social media, golf fans have been lapping up the idea.

Golf fans excited at potential for LIV Golf stars appearing at The Players Championship
As we know, the LIV tour has some of the biggest names in golf as part of its roster, with the likes of Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka still among the very best around.
And over on X, it seems the idea of those players competing with the PGA’s best again will go down well with golf fans.
One fan reacted in shock admitting that the TV ratings could sky-rocket as a result.
“Wow. That would be a ratings bonanza”
Another fan labelled the news as ‘huge’, while another claimed they’d be ‘glued’ to the TV all week.
“Having some of the big name LIV guys at the players would have me glued to the tv for 4 straight days”
Those sentiments were echoed further as well, with another golf lover backing the call.
“How awesome would that be if The Players is when this happens. It would be perfect.”
While another fan made reference to those big LIV names.
“Bryson, Brooks, Rahm, etc. in the PLAYERS in less than a month? Yes please!”
What Rex Hoggard said about LIV stars playing at The Players Championship
The excitement for LIV Golf stars rocking up at TPC Sawgrass came courtesy of comments from NBC Golf analyst Rex Hoggard.
Hoggard said a LIV player had told him about the potential deal, insisting that the Players Championship could see LIV players return.
“I’ll go one step further. I could say the possibility of next month with The Players Championship looming. I spoke to one LIV player who has actually heard from the PGA Tour about the possibility of showing up at the flagship event,” Hoggard said.
“Let’s put that into context. The message that sends to fans is that yes, we understand you, we hear you, we know you want to the game to be reunited, we know you want to see the best players from both tours playing against each other more often. That would be a very powerful statement.”
LIV, of course, has an event for that same weekend and it seems unlikely they’ll renege on those commitments.
However, with things moving at breakneck speed, it seems anything is possible.
