Chris Gotterup is very much the new sensation in professional golf right now and while he’s not quite at Scottie Scheffler’s level just yet, the trajectory is getting there.

Gotterup has gone from being nowhere near and in danger of losing a PGA Tour card to being in contention for the Ryder Cup, all in a matter of weeks.

The just-turned 26-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable rise, with his Scottish Open win being the icing on the cake.

Still, we’ve seen many players come and go on the PGA Tour over the years as they’ve enjoyed little spells of success in the game.

However, what makes current world number one Scottie Scheffler so great right now is the consistency he’s found in his game over a number of years.

For Chris Gotterup, then, that is the next challenge but when you compare the duo at the same age, things look pretty bright for Gotterup.

Chris Gotterup v Scottie Scheffler at age 25

Golf is a game that is full of so many stats and little nuggets of information that you can sometimes end up drowning or going down pointless rabbit holes.

However, when it comes to looking at Gotterup v Scheffler at the age of 25, it’s worth taking a bit of note.

As shared on X by Rick Gehman, the connection between the two is obvious and as it stands, Gotterup is on a similar path to Scheffler.

Crucially though for Gotterup, he has that win that Scheffler didn’t have at the time and even more impressively, he’s done it in less events.

Scheffler, though, does dominate in the top ten category with eight top ten finishes in his opening 29 events and that’s something we still see him deliver regularly now.

But, for Chris Gotterup, the signs are hugely positive and in a few years’ time, it will certainly be interesting to see just how close he’s got to the world number one.

Can Chris Gotterup make Team USA for the Ryder Cup?

After propelling himself to the top 20 in the standings, Gotterup is right in the conversation at the moment.

He might end up missing out on being an automatic selection but if Keegan Bradley is looking at players in form and Gotterup maintains his current run, then he has to be in the discussion.

Right now, there are few players playing better in the entire world of golf and we’ve seen before in Ryder Cups how a wildcard selection can swing things.

Europe had it with Ludvig Aberg in 2023. Will Chris Gotterup be the USA version? Time will tell.
