The Myrtle Beach Qualifier has been played this week as a number of popular YouTube stars compete for a chance to play a PGA Tour event.

The controversial call from the PGA has seen 16 online golfers take part in a qualifying event that will see them take part in the Myrtle Beach Classic at the back end of April.

A number of top YouTube personalities are taking part. Peter Finch is representing the UK while the likes of Grant Horvat and Micah Morris are there, as is Good Good golf star, Luke Kwon.

Peter Finch has confirmed we won’t know who won the event until April. But videoing his practice round over in his YouTube channel, Grant Horvat has made his prediction on what the winning score will need to be.

“We are probably going to have to shoot 65 if we are going to make it through this qualifier, that has to be the goal. 65, 66,” Horvat said.

“It depends on the conditions. Right now the conditions are so easy, the course is so wet,” Horvat’s caddie replied.

“It depends how you look at it, the ball is probably not going to roll out on the fairway as much if it is this wet,” Horvat added.

In the end, Horvat shot a 75 to go nowhere near what he thought was needed. In all likelihood, that’s going to be nowhere near good enough to have got over the line in the qualifier.

Myrtle Beach qualifier is eye-catching for golf

There are differing opinions on this but the fact is that the PGA Tour needs to attract eyes to its product and getting YouTube golfers involved is a good way to do this.

The likes of Horvat and others are massive names now in the world of golf and given the followings they have, the PGA have made a smart move here.

It is a touch frustrating knowing the tournament has finished and we won’t know the winner.

But overall, this is a good concept by the tour and one that might even be repeated further in the season.
