Golf fans think Team Europe have made a ‘brilliant’ decision ahead of the Ryder Cup in Bethpage Black

With so much going off in golf at the moment, you can be forgiven for forgetting there is a Ryder Cup just five months away.

Bethpage Black will play host to the 2025 event as Team USA look to wrestle back the trophy they so meekly gave up in Rome in 2023.

For Team USA – led by Keegan Bradley – much of the focus will be on a raucous home crowd and also, just who gets the final nod as part of their 12.

For Team Europe, captain Luke Donald will no doubt look to keep things as much the same as possible and after winning so comfortably in Italy, Donald knows there’s not much tinkering to be done.

Indeed, Donald and Team Europe have now made a big call for their team already that has gone down more than well with golf fans.

Golf fans praise Team Europe as they appoint Jose Maria Olazábal as vice-captain

Team Europe are looking to go again in the USA and familiarity will be a key theme for Luke Donald and his charges.

So, while the 12 players may well change depending on rankings and form, Donald seems keen to keep things smooth off the course and it’s now been confirmed that Jose Maria Olazábal will return as a vice-captain.

Skipper Luke Donald reacted to the announcement on X, posting the following:

While among the golf fans, Europe’s decision has gone down swimmingly.

One fan labelled the news as ‘brilliant’, while another labelled it a ‘great appointment’.

While another praised the decision from Donald to bring Olazabal back.

“A splendid decision Luke. The experience that Olly – and other Ryder Cup captains, both winning and losing – will bring will be invaluable.”

Carrying on the praise, another Team Europe fan brought up the Miracle at Medinah to highlight ‘Olly’s influence.

“The miracle at Medinah with Jose at the wheel is so far the greatest Ryder Cup victory but a Bethpage win might just surpass it”

And continuing the theme, another suggested the Spaniard will bring much needed passion.

“Great choice. Will bring plenty of passion to the team”

Finally, reacting to the news himself, Olazabal was more than delighted to be name again.

As Team Europe prepare for arguably their toughest challenge ever on American soil, it very much seems like Luke Donald is doing his best to get plans sorted early.

With Olazabal onboard again, Team Europe will have every confidence of once again winning out.
