Patrick Cantlay is getting pretty good at holing crucial putts on the 18th green in the final session before the singles at these team events, as he sent the USA team into a frenzy on Saturday at the Presidents Cup.
The final match of Saturday’s foursomes session looked to be absolutely crucial, with Si-woo Kim and Tom Kim fighting back from being behind on three occasions to take their match with Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele down the 18th. At that stage, a win for the Internationals would have made the score 10-8 heading into Sunday.
However, Cantlay evoked memories of last year’s Ryder Cup by holding a stunning birdie putt in the darkness to ensure that the Internationals could only secure a half point at best. And when Si-woo Kim’s putt missed, the US team were given reason to get very excited.
But perhaps not everyone conducted themselves with a lot of class.

Of course, the highlight of the match for many will be that unbelievable chip Si-woo Kim hit from an awful spot on the 16th hole to tie the match. It appeared that Jim Furyk’s men were on course to go 2 up in that moment, before Kim produced a moment of genius to hole out. That prompted the South Korean to do his best Steph Curry impersonation as he sprinted around the green.
The two South Koreans need little encouragement to get hyped up all day, so it is probably fair to assume that they covered more ground celebrating all of the long putts they holed than just walking the rest of the course. But that did not sit right with everyone.
In a video posted on the PGA Tour account on X, Wyndham Clark can bizarrely be seen mimicking Kim’s celebration and mocking the Internationals pair after their defeat.
Golf fans not at all impressed
Just three Americans have lost two matches so far this week, with the 2023 US Open champion being one of them. His only appearance on Saturday ended in a 4&3 defeat to Kim and Kim.
With that, plenty of golf fans have taken to social media to hit out at Clark’s reaction to Cantlay and Schauffele’s win, insisting that he has no right at all to be as arrogant as that.
Obviously, fans do not see everything that goes on inside the ropes, so perhaps he was given reason to be that fired up, but it is fair to say that Clark’s actions came across as quite pathetic given how good the shot from Kim was back on the 16th…
