When golf fans and analysts use the term ‘having a day’, it’s usually there to address someone playing a high standard of golf and it’s safe to say that Justin Thomas had himself a day at The Players in round two.
Thomas fought back from six over par in round one to card a stunning round of ten under par and tie the course record with Tom Hoge.
In doing so, Thomas shot a record 11 birdies around TPC Sawgrass and only a wayward drive and second shot on the 18th stopped him making history all out on his own.
Nevertheless, it was quite the spectacle to see Thomas playing so well and over on social media, fans were all over Thomas as they suggested he might just be back to his best.

Golf fans laud Justin Thomas as he makes history at The Players
Going from +6 to -4 overnight is quite the achievement and while the leaders sit on -11, Thomas has very much put himself in contention to at least get involved by Sunday.
Thomas hasn’t won on the PGA Tour for more than two years but he has started 2025 well.
Indeed, after Thomas made history at the WM Open a few months back, he’s back at it again and over on X, fans have been loving his resurgence.
One fan lauded Thomas’ effort, and insisted he was simply unlucky to his water on 18.
“So impressive , especially given yesterdays struggles on the course. Tough to hit the water on 18th, he was worth better”
While golf analyst Jason Sobel used Thomas’ round and comments to praise his caddy.
Going back to the praise for Thomas though, one fan labelled his effort as ‘stunning’, while another suggested ‘JT’ must have resolved things on the range.
“Holy moly he sorted out some issues at the range after yesterday, love it! Nice recovery round”
Although one fan was less complimentary, believing pressure cost him an outright course record.
“Ah pressure got to the lad still some achievement equalling the course record and making the cut after a dreadful day yesterday”
Still, Thomas still had plenty of plaudits coming his way, with one suggesting he’d be more excited inside than he was showing to the press afterwards
“Justin Thomas after shooting 11 under and making the cut at The Players despite all the odds stacked against him: “Yeah I’m just happy to have a tee time tomorrow!” His internal monologue: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”
While finally, one golf lover had three words to sum Thomas’ efforts up.
“Justin Thomas – absolute golf clinic”
Justin Thomas goes from zero to hero at The Players
Golf is a funny old game and it proved it once again with Justin Thomas in round two.
Yesterday, Thomas produced the worst round of his career in strokes lost to the field.
On Friday, Thomas produced one of his best ever, gaining a whopping 9.43 strokes against the field, the second highest ever at Sawgrass.
If he can somehow continue this form into the weekend, then those at the top will start to look nervously over their shoulder as a two-time major winner makes ground.
