The inaugural Golf Channel Games were full of drama, with Scottie Scheffler leading his side to a playoff win over Rory McIlroy’s.

The two teams at the Golf Channel Games were level after five challenges, with Scheffler having guided his all-American team to a handsome early lead.

Scheffler, Sam Burns, Luke Clanton and Keegan Bradley won the driving, short game and the 14-club challenge.

But McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Luke Donald and Haotong Li bounced back by winning the relay and then the captain’s challenge, which was worth two points.

A single-shot playoff between the two captains was required, with Scheffler edging out McIlroy by just one inch from 47 yards.

And it didn’t end there, with another fan saying: “The relay part of the Golf Channel Games absolutely worked and I want it to be an Olympic sport.”

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler help execute successful Golf Channel Games

Trump National Golf Course in Jupiter played host to the event, which has clearly gone down well with many golf fans.

When executed poorly, such tournaments can be a real letdown for fans, but that wasn’t the case in Florida.

The players themselves also seemingly really enjoyed the action, with Scheffler and McIlroy certainly in high spirits.

And that is another boost given their clear rivalry on the PGA Tour and the extremely lengthy seasons they have endured, along with the other players involved.
