The 2028 Solheim Cup venue has been announced, and golf fans around the world are less than impressed.

This year’s edition gets underway in September as Team Europe look to continue their superb recent record. Suzann Pettersen’s women haven’t lost since 2017 and are in search of back-to-back wins on US soil.

Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville will be the host venue next month, and now the LPGA have revealed where the Solheim Cup will be held when it returns stateside in four years.

The LPGA confirmed on Tuesday that Valhalla will be the host venue, and after what happened at the 2024 PGA Championship, fans aren’t pleased.

Scottie Scheffler, famously, was arrested upon his arrival at the Louisville venue during May’s PGA Championship.

As a result, Valhalla and the Kentucky authorities faced considerable criticism during and after the first major of the year.

And fans around the world are now highlighting Scheffler’s incident after the LPGA’s latest announcement.

“Wonder if Scottie will attend as a fan”, a fan sarcastically wrote. While another added: “Shouldn’t Scheffler hit a ceremonial first drive or something? With a police escort, of course.”

Some fans jovially suggested that Nelly Korda, the women’s number one, could end up in a similar situation to Scheffler.

“I hope Nelly Korda doesn’t get arrested,” a fan sarcastically wrote. “Can’t wait to see Nelly Korda’s mugshot,” said another.

Finally, some fans were also disappointed that Valhalla is being used, when there were far better options in the US.

One fan said: “Nobody wants to go back there after the mess they made of the PGA Championship.”

Another added: “This is disappointing. There are so many classic courses that would be better.”

Valhalla shouldn’t host major golf events moving forward

Of course, the incident surrounding Scheffler hasn’t exactly boosted Valhalla’s reputation. Many had their minds made up about the Louisville venue after the chaotic scenes in May.

However, regardless of Scheffler’s arrest, the course isn’t up to major championship standard. Scheffler predicted low scoring at Valhalla, and the world’s best players picked it apart with relative ease. What the golfing world saw in May resembled a regular PGA Tour event, not one of golf’s toughest tests. YouTube golf star Peter Finch also claimed the 2024 PGA Championship didn’t feel like a major.

It should be a similar story for the Solheim Cup. The course should be playing tough and test all aspects. Unfortunately, it’s hard to envisage such an outcome at the Louisville property.

The LPGA has clearly made a mistake here, and golf fans around the world are right to voice their concerns.
