It looks like we’re going to get a different winner of a major tournament this weekend after Scottie Scheffler had a nightmare in round three at the PGA.

Scheffler was coming into day three off the back of a crazy second day which had seen him arrested, released, and then go out and shoot under par to start his third round firmly in contention.

However, Scheffler struggled from the get-go today and everything that normally doesn’t go wrong for him, went wrong.

Scheffler missed putts, found the rough, and played some chip shots that we’re simply not used to seeing from the world number one recently.

But while the 27-year-old had a poor round, there is more than an argument to made to say that it’s not exactly surprising.

After a chaotic few weeks saw him become a new father, then the drama of his second day added to the fact he was without caddie Ted Scott today, meant it all added up to a bit of a nightmare round.

And over on social media, it seems most fans of Scheffler are in agreement that things might have just caught up with him a touch.

Golf fans all agree when it comes to Scottie Scheffler’s third round at Valhalla

As always with any major talking point at a big golf tournament, social media platform X was awash with comments from golf fans talking about Scheffler’s round.

Another X user, @dancl92 added more sympathy for Scheffler.

There’s absolutely no way he’s winning this week but totally understandable all things considered.

While @bradley1294750 called on people to look at the positives as well.

He’s going to finish top 10 and after all that it’s still extremely impressive. He’s probably two swings away from being in the thick of it but a couple bad breaks and bad decisions is all it takes

Others also seemed to hold similar views on the world number one.

Scheffler, then, looks to be out of contention.

In a way, it’s good for golf and other players will know full well they have an enormous opportunity tomorrow to win one of golf’s biggies.
