Gary Woodland has certainly endured a difficult 12 months, but the 2019 US Open champion can be extremely proud of his recovery from brain surgery.

Multiple PGA Tour winner Woodland underwent surgery on a brain lesion this time last year, which fortunately was a huge success.

The American has remarkably recovered to play 22 PGA Tour events this season, with his latest coming at last week’s Procore Championship.

Not making the cut will be perhaps be one of the last things on his mind, with Woodland just grateful to be back out on the course doing what he loves.

The four-time PGA Tour winner has made 12 of 22 cuts this season, with one top-25 finish going his way so far.

Gary Woodland shares message one year after his brain surgery

Woodland was delighted with his putting ahead of the US Open, although he did go on to miss the cut at Pinehurst.

Elsewhere in this year’s majors, he also missed the cut at the Masters, while finishing T60 and T50 at the PGA Championship and The Open Championship respectively.

The American has now shared a message to his followers a year to the day of his brain surgery, with Woodland writing on X: “One year ago today, I underwent brain surgery that changed my life forever.

“While it hasn’t been easy, I’m proud of how far I’ve come in that time and eternally grateful for all the love and support.”

Gary Woodland certain to cheer on the US Team at the Presidents Cup

Unsurprisingly, Woodland has slipped to 190th in the world rankings, but his hard work on the course should result in a rise in the near future.

He once made it all the way to 12th place in the standings, such was his impressive run before the unfortunate brain problem.

Woodland will be focusing on his own game for the time being, but the American may just be keeping an eye on his compatriots at the Presidents Cup.

He certainly played his role at the event in 2019, with Woodland helping the US Team to a 16-14 win over the International Team in Melbourne.

Geoff Ogilvy thinks previous Presidents Cup results are misleading, with the International Team having won just once from 14 attempts, with one draw and 12 US victories.
