Gary Player names the ‘most athletic golfer’ he’s ever seen on the PGA Tour

If you’re looking for someone with knowledge of the game of golf from decades of playing at the very highest level, then you needn’t look much further than Gary Player.

The nine-time major winner is still going strong approaching 90 and competed in the recent Hero World Challenge with one of his grandchildren.

Player has played with and against some of the best to ever play golf. The South African often went toe to toe with the best the USA had to offer in the likes of Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus and it’s quite remarkable he won the majors he did.

Still, while those star names from golf standout, Player himself has now taken to social media to reveal it was Sam Snead who was actually the ‘most athletic’ golfer he came across.

Sam Snead remains joint top with Tiger Woods in terms of PGA Tour wins at 82 and it’s quite fitting really that Player names him as the most athletic golfer.

Woods is very much regarded as being a player who changed the game in terms of fitness and gym work and it’s obvious Snead was ahead of his time really.

Taking to X, Player revealed Snead is his man and explained just why he puts him at number one.

With both players sitting top of the pile in terms of PGA Tour wins, it’s only natural that comparisons will be made.

Of course, Woods and Snead played in different eras with different equipment and different opponents, so it’s hard to measure.

However, on the pure base stats, it’s easy to see why they pair are so well-regarded in the sport.

Woods will no doubt be desperate to get one more win and become outright winner on the PGA Tour list.

But in terms of professional wins, it looks like Tiger has some way to go to match Snead.
