Rory McIlroy posted a third round 68 at the Irish Open on Saturday and he heads into Sunday trailing the leader, Adrien Saddier, by four shots.
McIlroy has been far more intense at the Irish Open than he has been on the PGA Tour over the past few months.
The Northern Irishman is quite clearly desperate to win at The K Club, as he looks to build up some positive momentum ahead of the Ryder Cup.
McIlroy hasn’t been at his brilliant best, but he is definitely getting close.
The Irish Open crowd have been right behind McIlroy at The K Club this week and he will need all of their support if he is to come from four shots behind Adrien Saddier and win on Sunday.
Rory McIlroy reveals what he told his caddie on the 18th green at the Irish Open
Despite shooting four-under par on Saturday, McIlroy wasn’t entirely happy with his round.

He definitely could have posted a round in the mid-low 60s, had his putter been hot on day three at the Irish Open.
McIlroy was asked to deliver his verdict on his performance in the third round at The K Club.
He said: “Yeah, as I was walking off the 18th green I said to Harry, ‘that was probably the most frustrating four-under par round of golf I have played in a while’.
“I had plenty of chances. I felt like I hit some good putts that didn’t go in. I felt like all day I was just trying to keep myself close-ish to the lead. I feel like I could be a couple of shots better but overall, still in a decent position going into tomorrow.“
McIlroy is clearly hitting the ball very well, but he needs his putter to cooperate in the final round if he is to win his second Irish Open title.
Rory McIlroy says if he can come from four shots back to win the Irish Open
Saddier has played fantastic golf this week, and if he shoots a round in the 60s on Sunday, it will be very hard for McIlroy to win, albeit not impossible.
McIlroy was asked after his third round if he feels as though he’s capable of winning at The K Club, despite trailing Saddier by four strokes.
The Masters champion said: “I do, yeah. I just need to see a couple of putts drop early on.
“I gave myself chances early on and didn’t quite convert.
“Yeah, if I can get off to a fast start tomorrow and put a little bit of pressure on the guys behind, hopefully I can make the back nine interesting.”
If McIlroy does make a strong start on Sunday, the leaders will definitely feel his presence on the leaderboard.
We should be in for a hugely exciting final round of the Irish Open as McIlroy attempts to chase down Saddier and co.
One thing’s for certain, if anyone is capable of shooting a round in the mid-low 60s at The K Club, McIlroy is.
