Akshay Bhatia struggled to replicate the form he showed during the first round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship on day two in Memphis.
Bhatia posted a solid round of one-under par 69 on day two of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, and he now sits four shots adrift of the leader, Tommy Fleetwood.
The 23-year-old has not won on the PGA Tour since the 2024 Valero Texas Open, and he has really struggled with his game at times this year.
Bhatia said that he’s been getting too involved in looking at the FedEx Cup rankings over the past few weeks.
And that clearly hasn’t helped him with his game.
Maybe he had that on his mind once again during day two at TPC Southwind on Friday.
Frustrated Akshay Bhatia comments on his second round at the FedEx St. Jude
Bhatia was clearly frustrated after his second round 69.

He made two birdies, one bogey and a whole lot of pars at TPC Southwind on Friday.
Bhatia was asked to sum up his second round at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Friday.
He said: “Yeah, it was definitely boring making a lot of pars. It was definitely a frustrating round, but again, I feel like I played good enough yesterday, and a round like today is okay, and the wind was pretty tricky out there. I wasn’t super sharp with everything, but I had a couple nice up-and-downs, and I’m just looking forward to getting some rest and going at it again tomorrow.“
Bhatia may be frustrated but if one-under par is his worst score of the week, he will be just fine.
A couple of rounds in the mid-60s may just be enough for the 23-year-old to get the job done come Sunday.
Akshay Bhatia says what will be key to winning the FedEx St. Jude
Bhatia is renowned for being a good driver of the ball, but he has really struggled off the tee this season.
The two-time PGA Tour winner is ranked way down in 110th position in strokes gained off the tee in 2025.
However, he has completely turned that around this week, and is ranked 1st in strokes gained off the tee in Memphis.
Bhatia was asked if keeping the ball in play off the tee is the most important factor to playing well this week.
He said: “Yeah, it’s nice. You can’t play out of the rough too much on this golf course, especially how firm the greens are. With some of the jumper lies that we can get and some of the really bad lies you can get in this rough, it just makes guesswork way harder. There’s a couple holes you can hit it in the rough, and 10 was a good example, the pin is all the way back so you have a bigger margin for error, but once you get these pins where they start tucking it over bunkers and over corners, it makes a big difference.“
If Bhatia continues to drive the ball well, he will have a great chance of winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship this week.
