Another week and another PGA Tour event for us to get our teeth into.

This time, the PGA Tour goes to Detroit Golf Club and the Rocket Mortgage Classic, as a number of players look to register a win for 2024.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic is not one of the signature events on the tour but still holds high prestige among players, with some big-name winners in the past.

The current hold of the title is Rickie Fowler, while Bryson DeChambeau and Tony Finau are among the winners in the past.

This week’s tournament sees some huge names not playing. The likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Xander Schauffele are all taking a rest, meaning the field is wide open.

That, of course, throws it open to a number of players who’ll hope to win.

With that in mind, we’ve taken at look at FIVE youngsters to watch out for in Detroit.

Tom Kim

The most obvious young star to pick and the favourite going into the event, Tom Kim came within a whisker of beating Scottie Scheffler at last weeks’ Travelers Championship.

Still only 22, Kim is very much still in the bracket of ‘youngster’ and is rightly being considered among the favourites for Detroit.

If Kim can piece it together like he did last weekend, then there’s a high chance he delivers for what would be a fourth PGA Tour win.

Akshay Bhatia

Another 22-year-old and another player in good form this season, Akshay Bhatia has been in and around more than once in 2024.

Bhatia has it all in his locker really and while he fell away in the end last time out, he’s very much a man in good spirits when it comes to his game.

Expect Bhatia to go close and if it comes together, win the lot.

Nick Dunlap

Going even younger on the scale now, Nick Dunlap is very much a player making his way on the PGA Tour after deciding to go pro this year.

Dunlap opted to go full-time after winning The American Express in January and while he’s not made the cut in any of the three majors this season, he remains a high quality player.

Dunlap will be desperate to get back to some semblance of form and with a weakened field, there’s an opening for him here.

Miles Russell

We couldn’t do this list of youngsters without including the latest sponsors exemption. This time, it’s 15-year-old – yes 15 – Miles Russell.

The teenager is emerging as one of the great young hopes in golf and has already drawn comparisons to Tiger Woods with his game.

Russell will probably be nowhere near winning, but at 15, you can’t help but cast eyes on him.

Michael Thorbjornsen

Finally, making our list of impressive youngsters to watch in the Rocket Mortgage Classic, we have 22-year-old America, Michael Thorbjornsen.

Having only just turned pro after topping the University standings for 2024, Thorbjornsen will be desperate to make an impression on just his second PGA start of 2024.

Sometimes, a player with no fear comes from the pack and Thorbjornsen might well be that guy for this week in Detroit.
