While LIV Golf has some of the biggest and best names in golf in the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, there’s also a number of players who many would suggest have had their best days in the sport already.
LIV snapped up a number of experienced players when they initially started as the likes of Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and American legend, Phil Mickelson were among the players to sign.
Since being on LIV, though, Westwood and Poulter’s Majesticks GC have struggled while Mickelson has also failed to rediscover his best.
However, that’s not to say all is lost for any of these senior pros over on LIV and the stats for 2024 actually showed a fight-back in form for some of Europe’s biggest Ryder Cup legends.

Paul Casey leads the way as Ryder Cup stars of the past surge on LIV Golf
Rather than sitting and just picking up the nice pay-cheques on offer on LIV, it seems some of Europe’s finest have really kicked on this year.
While the likes of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton were among the winners of events in 2024, a number of players who’ve made their mark on European Ryder Cup teams over the years also enjoyed their own success.
Paul Casey led the way as the most improved player on the tour in terms of finishing position as he surged from 35th in 2023 to 11th in 2024.
Likewise, Sergio Garcia – who also won in 2024 – went from 17th to 3rd.
Other players like Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer also moved up the rankings by nine places or more for the season.
| Player | 2023 Individual Finish | 2024 Individual Finish | Improvement |
| Paul Casey | 35 | 11 | +24 |
| Joaquin Niemann | 21 | 2 | +19 |
| Louis Oosthuizen | 24 | 6 | +18 |
| Charl Schwartzel | 38 | 21 | +17 |
| Abraham Ancer | 26 | 12 | +14 |
| Sergio Garcia | 17 | 3 | +14 |
| Graeme McDowell | 42 | 29 | +13 |
| Sam Horsfield | 40 | 31 | +9 |
| Martin Kaymer | 49 | 40 | +9 |
| Lee Westwood | 45 | 36 | +9 |
Elder statesmen show their worth with solid 2024 on LIV Golf
A lot of the players involved in the LIV Tour probably know that winning events is tough and that the likes of Rahm, Koepka and DeChambeau are always going to be favourites.
However, this doesn’t mean they can’t compete either and the stats showed above demonstrate a real willingness to compete by the ‘old guard’.
It’s nice to see the likes of McDowell, Casey and Westwood show some improvement and given the pride they take in their games, don’t be surprised to see them kick on again in 2025.
