Patrick Reed finally won a LIV Golf event as he triumphed in Dallas after almost throwing away the biggest of leads.
Reed managed to hold off three other players at LIV Dallas in a playoff as he holed a fine putt on the opening playoff hole to end things early on in the extra holes.
The American had held a five shot lead at one point allowed the chasing pack to reel him in and in the end, had to square off against Paul Casey, Louis Oosthuizen and Jinichiro Kozuma.
Reed got the job done by making a pressure putt on the first playoff hole to win his first LIV event at the 41st attempt and he now goes onto The Open at Royal Portrush as a player to keep an eye on.
Of course, Reed’s success is in stark contrast to another former major winner, Dustin Johnson.
Johnson finished in a tie for 13th as he finally showed a bit of form but in fairness to the American, he did have some kind words to say about Reed.

Dustin Johnson reacts to Patrick Reed’s win at LIV Golf Dallas
Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed are good friends and Reed has previously credited Johnson with being one of the driving factors behind his move to LIV Golf in the first place.
Of course, Johnson has had a win on LIV already but has struggled a lot in recent times in terms of his overall form.
Nevertheless, he was still happy to see his good friend succeed in Dallas.
“Obviously it’s a great win. It’s a tough golf course, good field. Pretty much all the top guys played well. It was a good win. Any win out here is good, but it’s hard to win. We’ve got such a great quality of field, and it’s just hard to win,” Johnson said after the event.
Pressed on if Reed was the best player yet to win, Johnson seemed to agree.
“Yeah, for sure. It was good to see. I’m happy for him, and yeah, it’s a good win.”
How Patrick Reed reacted to his win at LIV Golf Dallas
It really was good to see Reed get over the line on the LIV scene. He is too good a player to not be winning on there and hopefully this kickstarts a run for him.
Of course, Reed himself was also delighted to get that first win and he took to Instagram to show his feelings.
With The Open coming up in a few weeks, Reed will very much be a player worth keeping tabs on in terms of who can win.
As far as LIV Golf players go, Reed is right up there in terms of talent and having won The Masters, knows full well how to get it over the line when it matters.
