Dustin Johnson heads to Oakmont this week as the last man to win the US Open at the famed Henry Fownes design.
Johnson has regressed badly as a player since joining LIV Golf from the PGA Tour.
However, the 40-year-old will still believe that he has one big one left in him. Could he win his third major at the US Open this week? Or will Oakmont eat him up?
The big issue for Johnson in recent years has been his putting, and that may well hold him back at Oakmont, especially with the devilishly quick greens.
Johnson is one LIV player in particular who doesn’t seem to have the hunger he once did after his switch to the Saudi-backed outfit.

The man from South Carolina was a dominant force on the PGA Tour but since he joined LIV Golf, he has only had two top-10s in majors.
It’s a shame to see just how much he has declined, but how does DJ view his form in general over the past few years?
Dustin Johnson makes claim about his game since joining LIV
Johnson addressed the media at Oakmont on Monday, ahead of the start of the US Open later this week.
The two-time major champion looked completely at ease, and was as laid back as ever when speaking to the golfing press.
Johnson was asked whether he believes his game has slipped over the last few years since he joined LIV Golf.
Johnson replied, “Golf is a strange sport. I don’t feel like I’ve slipped any. My scores haven’t reflected, but it is a really fine line.
“I remember a few years ago, I missed two cuts in a row. I think I shot 80-80, and then I won the next week. For me it’s always really close to being good, but just getting back there and keeping it consistent which over the last couple months I’m starting to see a lot of patterns and the game feels like it’s coming back into good form.“
Johnson was then asked how his game is shaping up right now ahead of the third major championship of the year.
“I feel like my game’s been really close,“ he explained. “I haven’t really got a lot out of it. So it was definitely nice to have a nice finish last week. I played good every day. I didn’t — you know, still kind of giving away some shots. I need to clean that up a little bit.

“But played really solid every day, hit it nice, gave myself a lot of opportunities. Just still kind of gave some shots away each round that you can’t afford to do at a golf course like this.
“It was nice to finally see the game progress a little bit. I know my score didn’t reflect it at the PGA, but I actually played way better than the score. I just struggled a little bit on the greens. Well, maybe that’s an understatement. I struggled really bad on the greens.“
Dustin Johnson stats on LIV in 2025
DJ’s numbers on LIV this season have been solid if not spectacular.
Here is how Johnson has fared in all of the main statistical categories so far this season on LIV.
| Statistical category | Johnson’s 2025 rank |
| Driving accuracy | T-22 |
| Driving distance | 12 |
| Greens in regulation | T-19 |
| Scrambling | 47 |
| Putting | T-31 |
Not many people fancy Johnson to do anything of note at the US Open this year.
His game just isn’t where it needs to be right now, and if he did win at Oakmont, it would be a gargantuan shock.
