DP World Tour winner announces his retirement from golf with immediate effect, ‘I regret nothing’

One DP World Tour player has simply had enough of the game, it seems.

Golfers on the DP World Tour may not earn quite as much money as the PGA Tour stars.

However, there are still exceptionally lucrative financial prizes on offer over in Europe.

As we all know though, money doesn’t always equal happiness, although it certainly helps along the way!

Despite the riches on offer in the world of professional golf, one DP World player has decided that he’s not prepared to chase the dream anymore and has called it a day at the age of just 35.

Interesting, the golfer who has decided to retire with immediate effect was a huge talent when bursting through the ranks more than a decade ago.

Alexander Bjork, 35, has chosen to move away from the game in order to spend more time with his family and pursue new ventures.

He was actually an elite tennis player in his teenage years, and was one of Sweden’s top ten players as a junior before deciding to focus purely on golf.

However, his time as a touring professional has now come to an end.

Here is Bjork’s official statement in full:

“In 1995, I hit my first golf shots on the range with my grandmother and grandfather.

“What I didn’t know then was that it would mark the beginning of an incredible journey.

“From earning my green card and practicing at Växj® Golf Club, on to junior tournaments, camps, and playing with the junior national team. Then came my professional career, competing on the Nordic League, Challenge Tour, DP World Tour, PGA Tour, and participating in nine major championships.

“Seventeen seasons have passed since I stepped into professional life.

“Since then, I’ve made 350 tournament starts including: 10 wins. 12 runner-up finishes. 80 top-10 finishes.

“The highlights include my victory at the Volvo China Open on the DP World Tour, and being named the best iron player in the world.

“I have now chosen to step back and end my professional career. I want to spend more time with my family, and I feel truly motivated to start a new chapter in life. I leave with joy, pride, and gratitude. I have always given everything, regret nothing, and I have been fortunate to experience wonderful encounters, memories, friendships, and lessons which I will always carry with me.

“I want to express my deepest thanks to everyone who has been part of the journey and supported my career in any way – family, friends, sponsors, coaches, federations, clubs, fans, and many more!“

Fair play to Bjork. It would have been easy for him to keep on playing and picking up cheques here and there for making cuts and securing the odd top-10 finish.

However, family life was clearly more important to him.

While Bjork never reached superstardom, he definitely enjoyed a decent career in professional golf.

Bjork will now enjoy the finer things in life it seems, with more time with his wife and children firmly on his agenda.

It’s incredibly rare to see touring pros retire in their mid-30s, but Bjork has broken that mould and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
