Golf can be a funny old game at times.

One minute you’re on top of the world after playing a stunning iron shot and the next you’re wondering why you bother playing in the first place after duffing a chip or sending a putt racing 15 foot past the hole.

Those feelings are often the same whether you’re a professional on one of the world’s biggest tours, or an amateur teeing it up with your friends at a weekend.

Still, every so often, golf throws up something that is simply hard to believe and that’s exactly what has happened to DP World Tour player, Sebastien Gros this week.

Sebastien Gros breaks course record in stunning 20 shot swing

In one of the more brilliant stories of 2025 so far, we needn’t look any further than French golfer Sebastien Gros.

Gros, playing down in South Africa in the Cape Town Open, has just enjoyed one of the most remarkable stretches of golf you’re ever likely to see anywhere.

On the par 72 course in South Africa, Gros got off to the worst start possible as he carded a miserable eight over par 80 to find himself at the foot of the leaderboard.

However, in one of the most stunning turnarounds in history, Gros then headed out for his second round and went on to break the course record by shooting a brilliant low round of 60 – 12 under par – to put himself into the history books.

Who is Sebastien Gros?

Sebastien Gros is a French professional golfer who competes on the DP World and Challenge Tours.

The Frenchman will be 36 this year but has still yet to record a win on the DP World Tour since 2011, with his current world ranking seeing him all the way down in 606th.

Still, his lack of DP wins doesn’t mean he’s not tasted success and he has won six times in his career, including twice on the Challenge Tour, twice on the Alps Tour, and once on the French Tour back in 2021.

Like so many golfers on the European circuit, Gros is looking for his big break and to get that big win at a DP World Tour event.

If anything, this heroic performance in Cape Team will at least put him on the map and if he can follow it up in round three, he might just get win number three on the Challenge Tour under his belt.
