The DP World Tour has been involved in a strategic alliance with the PGA Tour ever since November 2020.
The strategic alliance became particularly important following the start of LIV Golf in 2022. The DP World Tour lost a number of its legendary figures to the breakaway league.
The PGA Tour‘s stake in the DP World Tour increased from 15 per cent to 40 that year.
Meanwhile, the top 10 players on the European circuit without a PGA Tour card each year now receive one for the following season.
Guy Kinnings issues his verdict on the strategic alliance with the PGA Tour
It is clearly beneficial to the PGA Tour. A pathway is created for the best of the best to end up stateside, while the deal prevents the DP World Tour from entering into an agreement with LIV Golf.
And obviously, the European Tour does receive financial support from the PGA Tour. However, from the outside, it does not appear to be sustainable for the tour to continually lose its best players for the majority of the next season.

Nevertheless, speaking on Sky Sports on the final day of the DP World Tour Championship, the tour’s CEO Guy Kinnings suggested that they remain very happy working with the PGA Tour following the appointment of Brian Rolapp earlier this year.
“We like dealing with Brian, and we love working with the PGA Tour. They’re good partners and we work very regularly with them,” he said.
“For us, what we want to do is control what we can control, and that is, produce as strong as we possibly can, an international product. And we think this year that it’s gone pretty well. We’ve been lucky; the performances of the players, but people seem to be interested, really strong support around the world. We want to be golf’s global tour, national opens around the world, so we’ll continue to do just well.”
Has the strategic alliance with the PGA Tour been good for the DP World Tour?

The conclusion of the 2025 DP World Tour season means that we now know the 10 players who will receive PGA Tour cards for next year.
It was known for some time that Marco Penge would be joining the PGA Tour following his three victories this season.
But he will be joined by the likes of Laurie Canter, Alex Noren and Haotong Li.

The final weeks of the season on the DP World Tour have delivered further excitement. But it is sometimes hard to remember that during the majority of the year when most of the world’s best players are playing on the other side of the Atlantic.
