Scottie Scheffler spoke to reporters after he lost yet again at the Ryder Cup on Saturday morning.

Something is clearly missing with Scheffler when it comes to the Ryder Cup, and he looked like a shadow of his true self during his defeat to Viktor Hovland and Robert MacIntyre on day two at Bethpage Black alongside Russell Henley.

Without trying to sound too harsh, Scheffler has been shocking at the Ryder Cup this week.

Scheffler and Henley were comfortably beaten on Friday and although he and Henley took their match to the final hole on Saturday morning, they were still nowhere near good enough.

Questions need to be asked of the world number one. That’s what happens in elite level sport when athletes fail to perform to their full potential.

Scheffler and Henley mixed up the order at Bethpage by switching odd and even tee shots on the Saturday morning foursomes but it was to no avail.

The man from Dallas, Texas, lost again and now he and his teammates are in a real hole heading into the Saturday afternoon four-ball matches.

Scheffler cut a hugely frustrated figure on the golf course on Saturday as he did on Friday as well.

The current world number one has struggled with all departments of his game this week and he has been unable to lead by example out on the golf course.

Scheffler spoke to reporters after his third defeat in a row at Bethpage, and explained why he felt he was unable to get the job done alongside Henley.

He said: Yeah, Russ and I, we battled hard out there. The guys we played against just played great. They did a good job. They holed the key putts. Obviously disappointed with the finish, but battled pretty hard this morning, and going to go out and do it again in the afternoon.

Bradley should be questioned for pairing Scheffler with Henley yet again.

The general consensus is that the 29-year-old needed a more energetic partner at the Ryder Cup this week.

Scottie Scheffler’s stats during three matches at the Ryder Cup

Scheffler will be hugely disappointed with his performances for Team USA at Bethpage Black so far this week.

Here is how Scheffler is ranked in the main five strokes gained categories out of all 24 Ryder Cup players so far this week:

StatsScheffler’s rank
Strokes gained off the tee6th
Strokes gained approach6th
Strokes gained around the green20th
Strokes gained putting5th
Strokes gained total6th

Those numbers clearly aren’t bad at all but let’s be honest, they are nowhere near his usual standards.

Scheffler still has a chance to get some points on the board for his country at the Ryder Cup with the Saturday afternoon four-balls and Sunday singles still to come.

Will he be able to produce his best from absolutely nowhere, though? If anyone can, Scottie can.
