Now that Keegan Bradley has announced his six picks for the Ryder Cup, one of the most intriguing decisions the USA captain will have to make is who he pairs with Bryson DeChambeau at Bethpage Black.
Bryson DeChambeau will make his return to the Ryder Cup stage next month. He did not feature in Rome two years ago.
DeChambeau is in a unique position on the American team, with the two-time US Open champion the only representative from LIV Golf on Keegan Bradley‘s team.
DeChambeau has a mixed record at the Ryder Cup to date. He failed to collect a single point on his debut in 2018, while he played extremely well alongside Scottie Scheffler three years later.
Dan Rapaport suggests who Bryson DeChambeau should be paired with at the Ryder Cup
While there are some obvious pairings – such as Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay – it is going to be fascinating to see who Bradley puts with DeChambeau.
But speaking on Dan on Golf, Dan Rapaport suggested that DeChambeau may be the right person to put with one of the rookies in New York.

“I think we go Bryson and Cam Young, just do that in best ball, just the bombers. Have two guys who fly it 330,” he said.
“I think Collin and JT, Collin is a guy who could play with Russell Henley I’m thinking maybe. Collin could play with Harris English. But I think the most solid teams are Scheffler and Burns, Schauffele and Cantlay, JT and Collin, Bryson and Cam Young, and then the dog team of Russell Henley and Harris English.”
Stopping Bryson DeChambeau could be pivotal for the Europeans at Bethpage
Momentum has potentially never been more important in a Ryder Cup than it will be in New York. And DeChambeau is one of the players who will set the tone.
DeChambeau has become one of the most popular players on the planet. And if he starts playing well at Bethpage, the Europeans could be in real trouble. On the other hand, if the visitors can get the better of the Crushers captain, it will be a real statement from Luke Donald‘s side.
| Ryder Cup | Points won | Overall record |
| 2018 | 0 | 0-3-0 |
| 2021 | 2.5 | 2-0-1 |
| Total | 2.5 | 2-3-1 |
It will be interesting to see if DeChambeau is sent out in the foursomes given how unique his game is. But he could steal the show in the fourballs.
And that may help free up whoever he is playing alongside. So perhaps pairing him with a rookie may be a smart move.
