As golf becomes increasingly popular in the modern era, more and more athletes from other sports are getting involved and it was only a matter of time before NBA superstar LeBron James got himself on the tee box.
Unlike players like Steph Curry, JR Smith and former Phoenix Suns star, Charles Barkley, current global icon LeBron James has never really been seen turning his hand to the game of golf.
Now though, approaching the twilights of his basketball career, James seems to have been lured in by the golf bug.
Doing the rounds on social media, LeBron has posted his own video of his swing as he looks to get into the game so many love.
However, after Golf.com posted the footage and asked for ‘swing tips’ for James, it’s safe to say that most golf fans have been left with the same opinion of the NBA star.

One thing LeBron will quickly find out is that the fans of our sport are an unforgiving bunch and when it comes analysing swings, everyone on social media seems to think they know best.
James – if he chooses to look at the comments – will find that plenty of golf lovers are not overly impressed with his efforts.
Indeed, there’s plenty of suggestions that James’ manner – such as smoking a cigar on the tee box – is not warranted given his level of play.
One fan pointed that out immediately, saying:
‘you’re not minutely good enough to be smoking a cigar while you are playing golf’
While another claimed it was even worse than watching Charles Barkley try to play.
“He has zero hope with that swing. Worse than Barkley.”
That theme seemed to continue as well, as another fan suggested James put the cigar down.
“The very first tip would be, you’re not good enough to play with a cigar in your mouth for one, you’re great at basketball and that’s about it some things you really have to work on Bro and this is one of them. You can’t be cool and play golf”
However, it wasn’t all bad news for James, as one fan suggested things could be a lot worse.
“I’ve seen worse. Feel like ball too high up though. Would look better/like he actually cared to learn the sport though too if he had a trainer in vid correcting what’s wrong. But aye do you King.”
Still, people couldn’t get away from the cigar being on show, as it reared it’s head again further in the comments.
“Cigar has to go! Turn your shoulders… keep your lower half of body still! Jeeze!!!”
While going to the extremes it seems, one fan claimed LeBron was simply trying to be Michael Jordan and there was no helping him.
“There’s no helping that, he’s very unnatural and unathletic. He wants so badly to be like MJ and he can’t even come close”
LeBron James interest shows the rise of golf
Golf has always been played by the masses and celebrities and sports stars over the years have often turned their hand to it.
However, to see someone like LeBron James now getting involved in the game is a massive boost and the officials and execs at PGA Tour level will be hoping he makes this a more consistent outing.
Getting James to PGA Tour events and the eyes he brings even if he’s just watching on from the sides is massive for the sport.
Hopefully, this is just the start for James and in a year or so, we might see a big improvement as he gets hooked on the game like so many do.
