The Europeans have been better than the United States at the Ryder Cup over the last three decades.
That’s just a fact, with Europe having won 11 of the past 15 Ryder Cup clashes.
1993 was the last time the United States won on foreign soil and since then, the Europeans have racked up four away victories.
Keegan Bradley made some risky decisions at the Ryder Cup, none more so than pairing Collin Morikawa and Harris English together for the two foursomes sessions.
The 39-year-old from Vermont seemed to be out of his depth in the role as Ryder Cup captain and that much was obvious from his nervy opening speech.

Edoardo Molinari criticized Keegan Bradley for some of his decisions and the American will be fully aware of the fact that he got a lot of things wrong at Bethpage.
Now Colt Knost has offered a theory as to why the Americans have struggled so badly at the Ryder Cup in recent years, and the PGA Tour won’t like his suggestion one little bit.
Colt Knost shares unpopular Ryder Cup opinion which the PGA Tour won’t like
Something has to change for the United States moving forward, if they are to turn the tide at the Ryder Cup.
And now an idea has been put forward regarding how taking drastic action with the Presidents Cup could help out the United States’ chances of becoming successful in the Ryder Cup once again.
Knost was speaking on Trey Wingo’s podcast about the United States’ recent struggles at the Ryder Cup.
And he came up with a groundbreaking idea.
Knost said: “I have an opinion, or an idea, that I don’t think is going to be very popular with the PGA Tour, and it’s get rid of the Presidents Cup.
“The last time we won the cup on foreign soil was in ’93, the Presidents Cup started in ’94. We’re four and 11 since the Presidents Cup started.

“In my opinion, it gives Europe a little bit of an idea of who we’re going to play together and also, the Internationals have a lot of great players but the United States dominates them every time.
“You throw out teams like, I’m just going to use Scottie and Russell Henley as an example, and they just dominated. I think it gives us a false sense of confidence going in because they dominated, but they’re not playing the same competition as they are at the Ryder Cup.
“I think we need the full two years to prepared and have people whose jobs are to focus on the Ryder Cup. Keegan Bradley played the Presidents Cup a year ago, so he was focused on that.“
Should the Presidents Cup be scrapped to help the US at the Ryder Cup?
The main issue with the Presidents Cup is that the United States continually make the same mistake with their successful pairings.
Just because they formed a good partnership at the Presidents Cup against weaker opposition, it doesn’t mean they should automatically play together again 12 months later at the Ryder Cup.
As Knost said, the perfect example of this was Scottie Scheffler playing with Russell Henley.
They were great together at Royal Montreal Golf Club in 2024 but let’s be honest here, Henley was a terrible fit for Bethpage Black, given his lack of distance off the tee.
What made things even worse was Henley taking the odd numbered tee shots when all of the data suggested that the shortest hitter out of the two should be on the evens.
The European Ryder Cup team got a glimpse of Scheffler and Henley in action together in Montreal and while they played very well together, the United States fell into the trap of thinking that would automatically translate into success at Bethpage.
Moving forward, the American captains have to look at the Presidents Cup and the Ryder Cup as two completely separate entities.
Otherwise, they will be stuck in the same losing cycle for many years to come.
