Collin Morikawa is ready for The Memorial Tournament this week with new caddy Joe Greiner and he’s revealed the lasting impression he’s left on Greiner already.
Morikawa parted ways with his previous caddy just over a month ago and in turn, brought in Greiner, who had also gone his own way from Max Homa.
Now in their third tournament together, both Greiner and Morikawa are looking for the two-time major winner to kick into his best form and win at Muirfield Village.
However, this is a Collin Morikawa who is very much battling with his game at the moment and speaking to the media prior to the Memorial, he’s admitted that Greiner has been left baffled by his approach.

Collin Morikawa shares why Joe Greiner finds him ‘crazy’
With Morikawa coming so close to winning again in the last few months but not getting it over the line, he is among a group of PGA Tour players searching deep inside themselves for the missing pieces.
Indeed, after being asked if he overthinks things at times, Morikawa admitted that Greiner has picked up on it, while he himself knows for a fact he tries too hard.
“Absolutely. Yeah. Look, Joe, this is the third week with Joe Greiner on the bag and he’s already called me crazy a lot. And that’s fine. Like, I think golfers are generally crazy. I know I am,” Morikawa admitted.
“I mean, you give me, I had eight weeks off this off-season, you should hear about the amount of things I tried. Just, I mean I had seven different grips, different wraps on my grips, like I was going through it all. You just give me a little too much time and I just go down rabbit holes.
“But that’s, to me, look, going back to this whole risk/reward thing, I don’t mind taking risk and I don’t mind trying to change because I want to keep getting better. If I just kind of stay where I’m at you’re going to just keep getting lapped. And it doesn’t mean you have to change everything, but look, I think I’m a very different player than I was in ’21 and 2020, and not that I want to be that same exact player, but I want to be able to play as freely as I did a few years ago.”
Collin Morikawa can challenge Scottie Scheffler to win The Memorial
Despite not having a win since the Zozo in 2023 and prior to that, his win at The Open, Morikawa comes into this event in decent enough form.
He started the season with a second place at The Sentry after nearly beating Scottie Scheffler to the Tour Championship at the back end of last year.
Another second at The Arnold Palmer finished in agonising fashion, while he’s got five more top 20s this term as well.
| Year | Winner | Winning Score |
| 2015 | David Lingmerth | -15 |
| 2016 | Will McGirt | -15 |
| 2017 | Jason Dufner | -13 |
| 2018 | Bryson DeChambeau | -15 |
| 2019 | Patrick Cantlay | -19 |
| 2020 | Jon Rahm | -9 |
| 2021 | Patrick Cantlay | -13 |
| 2022 | Billy Horschel | -13 |
| 2023 | Viktor Hovland | -7 |
| 2024 | Scottie Scheffler | -8 |
Interestingly, Morikawa is 6th on TOUR for strokes gained overall and that shows that he is playing well in some facets of his game right now.
With two runner-up finishes at The Memorial previously, including last year, Morikawa will have every right to feel confident going into the 2025 edition.
